5 Stars Quick review of Group Chez Gerard Restaurants by pablo1949 13/04/2008
We had a meal at the Chester Restaurant on Saturday 12th April and I could not fault it. Excellent food, good service, lovely atmosphere, attentive and friendly waiter. I would highly recommend it.

Advantages Advantages Steak cooked as requested

    Disadvantages Disadvantages A bit crowded

After my husband finished some really tough exams last week I booked a table for two at the St Johns Wood High Street branch and we were delighted with our meal. Our table was booked for 8pm and although there were a few large parties in (a down side to going out so close to Christmas) we thought the service was excellent and the steak and chips the best we've had for a while. The tables are quite close together so it did feel a bit crowded - not quite a quiet candle-lit dinner for two. The wine list catered for every budget and we were able to buy a carafe which isn't very common in London ... more

    Advantages Advantages None at all

Disadvantages Disadvantages What's the point of a restaurant that won't take your order?

We went to Chez Gerrard in Berkhamsted on Friday evening. It was quite early, around 6pm, so wasn't too busy. We asked if we could sit outside, sat down, and the waiter brought us menus and water. And that was it. We never saw a waiter again. We waited probably 10 - 15 minutes for someone to come take our order, but no one ever came outside. They knew we were there -- we were given menus after all -- and we weren't the only people outside. But a waiter never came. Absolutely awful. So we got up and left, and went to somewhere where they'd actually serve us (we had a nice evening at the Gatsby) ... more

Advantages Advantages the decor and the friendliness of the waiter

    Disadvantages Disadvantages all the rest

I just had the worst restaurant meal in my lifetime at Chez Gerrard in Berkhamstead and may I add that this is the first letter I have ever written about a product. I also wish to add that the restaurant in question is located in Berkhamsted (Bucks) My wife booked us table for 3 for Tuesday 31st July as a treat for my 67th birthday. Having finally managed to place an order for 2 meat courses and a "tajine" we had to wait for over 40 minutes till we were finally served. The pleasant and polite waiter had insufficient knowledge of the menu and subsequently had to consult with the kitchen staff ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent steak-frites, very french atmosphere, good wine list

the best steak-frites this side of Paris" ??? Probably Nine restaurants around London, mostly in and around the City though also including Victoria, Dover Street and an atrium above the Plaza in Covent Garden. There are also 'branches' at Gatwick and Heathrow Airports, and another lone branch in Cambridge. These café-bars and restaurants are French. Not French-ish or frenchified, but actually French. Tables are draped with white linen, napkins are linen and large and there is a battery of cutlery and glassware. Waiters (usually with authentic accents) are suitably attired, but thankfully most ... more
