    Hey, I booked hostel-room in London through Hostelworld. The booking was cancelled, which I did not do, so I had no room in London. Deposit gone and not my favourite hostel in London, had to change hostel 2 times and did not get a private room as booked but only dorm. Back home I contacted Hostelworld to resolve the problem. I asked them, if it would have really been me cancelling the room, why I did not receive a cancellation confirmation via e-mail (as I received also a booking confirmation) and also that it basically couldn't be me because I never created a password for the Hostelworld HP ... more

    Long story short: the hostel I booked was deserted and I was left alone in the dark, in the middle of the rainforest. It was a horrible, stressful experience that really wasted my day. It's been three months and I've gotten nowhere with Hostelworld. After many, many e-mails and tweets I've finally got my deposit back (first time ever a refund on my cc took more than two weeks). No apologies, no compensation for the fact that I wasted half a day of my vacation, wasted gas, and ended up sleeping in a parking lot.     I have recently used hostelworld.com, this site itself is so non-professional looking as it appears on the web.. the display and the font color are also a bit hopeless.. Although there are cons, there are some pros too. I found good deals for holiday on hostelworld.com.. but was sorry that I had to pay a much higher price when I booked a hostel for 2 nights stay in Montreal, at the dorm rooms for 2 persons-- comparing with other online hotel/hostel booking sites; the reason was to take a late decision and non availability of offers to compare the price on the same location!!     Hostelworld.com is a brilliant site to use for booking cheap accommodation anywhere in the world. It searches over 20,000 hostels in more than 170 countries. To search for a hostel you simply enter the country and then the city and enter the dates you want to stay on the homepage.     Stay away from this guys, i have terrible experience. I've mada a hostelworld booking for two days in "Il Quinto Moro B&B" in Sardegna and they charged me a depost and sent confirmation mail. When I arrive in B&B the polite owner apalogize and said that he have never received Hostelworld booking and that he is full for that weekend. I've tried to contact HostelWorld but I receive answer that they are "out of office" for 4 days due to Irish national holiday!? I had to stay these two nights in hotel and pay triple price then reserved B&B. Since then I've send few mails in last 10 days to their ... more

    hostelworld.com took my $60 deposit but later refused to let me change dates or accomodations details, telling me to contact the hotel directly instead. the hotel never received the deposit towards the rooms and i never received the money back from hostelworld.com

    As my status says I am currently busy planning a fantastic travelling experience. A friend that recently did the same kind of experience recommended this site to me. My girlfriend and myself went off making our plans and started using this site extensively. Signing up to the site was simple and only needed basic information about you, which included a contact number, address and email address.     I too was looking for budget housing, for one of my travels, I paid extra and joined their gold card membership. Everything went along smoothly, I took my trip, hostels and hotels had my reservations at all the places I stayed in Southern France region. It wasn't until I wrote my review that I realized something was wrong. Overall I had a wonderful experience but at one place I was attacked by bedbugs (this can happen at any hotel), and left the next morning even though I paid for 2 nights.     I came across hostelworld whilst browsing the Internet for an affordable place to stay in Dublin on New Year's Eve given that hotel prices appeared to double for that night. I found its search facility excellent - it immediately offered me a wide range of hostels that fitted the criteria I had entered; whilst going on to display the availability of beds in that particular property. Its database apparently boasts over 10,000 hostels worldwide, so if you want to shop around first, then here's the place to do it!
