Hotpoint SY51 X

I bought this oven and a hotpoint dishwasher. The dishwasher lasted just under 2 years while the oven lasted around 15 months before packing in. Just outside the warranty period of 12 months. Coincidence? It was very pricey compared to other brands so I expected it to last much longer than the time it lasted. I'm pretty sure that under the sale of goods act both the hotpoint appliances I bought could be considered as being not fit for purpose. The oven itself cooks well (after 3 years use), that is if you can work out what setting to put it on! Let me explain... The decals surrounding the knobs on the top panel of the cooker (i.e. the ones which indicate function and the temperature increments) have all but rubbed off. This problem started to occur just over 1 year after purchase - funny that - given that the guarantee was for only 12 months!
