I converted my Toyota Yaris Verso to LPG in 2009, and have since driven about 35,000 miles. Conversion took around 2 days and I was issued with a glossy guarantee document from the fitter. Driving the car on gas was no different from driving on petrol, though top speed was down by around 5 mph and gas consumption fell to around 33 mpg from about 39 on petrol. The cost of conversion was recovered within 2 years by the much cheaper LPG at around 75p a litre, compared with petrol at £1.36. A year after conversion, I attempted to arrange a gas system service with the fitter, but he had ceased, so ... more

5 Stars Quick review of LPG Conversions by davroshudson 04/10/2008
Well I took the decision to convert my 2 cars over to LPG when petrol hit £1.15! The savings were obvious and with a LPG distributor selling the stuff at 48p per litre I have been quids in since it was done. I have saved £95 a month in the first month and the car is running great on it. I liked it so much I wrote a blog about it to let people find out more. Its here http://www.lpgguru.co.uk/ If You find it helpful leave me a comment ! Good luck on your conversion Its been great for me and ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap fuel, reliable, good for the enviroment

Disadvantages Disadvantages Takes up some space, only 1200 filling stations

How would you like to pay 1995 prices again for your fuel? That is between 56p - 61p a litre! Too good to true? A gimmick? Not so, it's even encouraged by the Government. There is no catch, if you want to pay these prices, consider having your car converted to run on LPG. What is LPG? LPG is short for Liquid Petroleum Gas, commonly known as Auto Gas, most petrol driven cars or vans (not diesels) can be converted to run on LPG which almost cuts your fuel costs in half. Currently, there are around 140.000 cars running around the UK able to run on LPG & 11 million worldwide. With around 1200 ... more

I purchased a BMW X5 4.4 6 months ago and had the conversion done a week later. The conversion was priced at £2300, whilst it was the most expensive quote I had been given, the person came with a glowing referal so I went ahead. A doughnut shaped tank which holds 60 litres of gas was fitted, this replaced my spare wheel, (A punctur kit from BMW £70 needed) the only other change to my car was the suspension pump had to be moved to allow the fitting (no visible change inside or out) this is an X5 issue only. Since having it fitted I have only encountered one problem - the car cut out on me ... more

5 Stars Quick review of LPG Conversions by clanless 11/11/2007
I had my 1.6 Vauxhall converted 9,000 miles/6 months ago. It runs fine on the motorway but is not as responsive as petrol at lower speeds. LPG has 80% of the energy of petrol so you get less MPG. The most I have managed is 33 mpg - and that is driving 'economically'. It cost £900 to convert. Should take me about 20k miles to recoup the cost (taking into account lower mpg and the price difference), so about a years motoring. You will hear people who say the car runs the same on LPG as it does on petrol - ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Small amount of petrol to start

My LPG conversion was installed a year ago I had being toying with the idea for a while. after hearing my partners uncle had it on a Lexus I took the plunge. 2 grand a small wheel like tank in tool slot at rear of vehicle and it was installed. The LPG can be switched between petrol and LPG and the fact you can have a tank of petrol and a tank of Gas gives your car a longer range. The LPG tank is full for £20 as oppose to £30 for half a tank of petrol - such a big difference but the car needs a small amount of petrol to start so I keep a quarter of a tank of petrol in usually just for that ... more

Hi, as i can't find a single review for stations in scotland, or for the type of car i run i'll do both! First of all, i would recommend buying a second-hand car if you could, that had the lpg fitted with it, and make absolutely sure you get a gas certificate! My car was bought for 300 pounds, i was very lucky, the carina had very low miles, and was top of the range. On a 2.0 litre automatic, lpg would get me 220 miles, at a constant 60 miles an hour, on what cost 13 pounds to fill up (at 37.9p a litre). Thanks very much for reading this short review, i hope it's of some help to someone ... more

I have fitted a Romano System N SGI system to my Omega 2.6 V6, it can off a previous car which had issues. I will cover day to day first. The car starts on petrol then switches to gas when ready, the switch also allows petrol usage as desired. The car is a tiny bit slower than on petrol and a bit thirstier (Propane has a lower energy density per litre than petrol), it is also a little quieter on gas. Day to day fuel costs are roughly half that of petrol despite autogas being slightly less than half the cost. The car can be difficult to fire occasionally on petrol, this can be cut down by using ... more
