    Advantages Advantages Small and Lightweight

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not an attractive travel system but very practical in the long run

I Highly recommend this Buggy/Travel system! With our first child we bought a big bulky travel system because we were recomended it and what a huge mistake that was! Complete nightmare to get in the back ouf our car or take our son out anywhere as it was to heavy. So 2nd time round we wanted to try something smaller. We bought the XLR and the car seat ect because when our first child was 6 month we bought him a XLR and loved it. It's so quick and easy to convert into the travel system and to attacth the car seat to. It folds up very small so if you have a small car boot this pram is ideal ... more

Advantages Advantages Good quality materials.Looks impressive, and very comfy for baby.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Don't trust brakes, bulky when folded.

After alot of online research I forked out £220 for the penguin/grey XLR. Loved the colour-in between red and magenta.A bit different, and i wasn't keen on the other maclaren colours. Was so excited to set up the new pushchair(more robust than a buggy in my mind). There are a few things i don't like about the XLR: *I was shocked at how big it was, especially the hood. It's much bigger than it needs to be. *The wheels are hollow plastic.so are noisy and rattley going over stoney terrain. *When folded it is not at all compact-it could be alot more compact but doesn't fold up tight enough.Makes it ... more

Advantages Advantages Quality build, durability, spacious seat, can be used from birth

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not a 'standard' travel system

As a (vaguely) on-line savvy Mummy to be, I searched literally EVERYWHERE known to man to buy the perfect pushchair when I was pregnant with my first child and after many hours and much mickey taking from my husband, I settled on the Maclaren Techno XLR from Maclaren - and I have been happy with my decision ever since! We purchased this pushchair in 2008, when it first came out, along with the matching Recaro Young Profi Plus car seat and Isofix base. I used it almost every day with my first daughter until she was 2.5 years old and her younger sibling came along and I am continuing to use it ... more

Advantages Advantages Lays flat, sun protection in hood, sturdy, looks good

Disadvantages Disadvantages Small amount of storage, rain cover doesnt cover hood

I bought the Maclaren XLR when my daughter reached 18 months as she was too big for her pram and I wasnt keen on the smaller umbrella buggys. What first attracted me to the buggy was the colour and design I thought it look very stylish and alot nicer than the brighter pinks and flowery ones that are on the market. I was also attracted to the SPF 50 protection that the hood provides as I was going abroad shortly after buying it so was a big plus point. This buggy has lasted well and is still in use occassionally now (my daughter is 3 years 3 months so does more walking now) I liked the way it ... more

Advantages Advantages Fantastic travel system and buggy and car seat duo

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

Maclaren XLR with Recaro profi plus car seat. Amazing buggy and amazing car seat. If you can ignore the diabolical colours Maclaren have chosen. And their diabolical marketing and sales strategy. However I am assured their service and after sales is excellent. We got a 2006 version in standard Techno grey thank god, I certainly would not push my baby around in the brown/pink or cream orange combinations. RECARO Car seat - this is a top notch car seat with the highest safety rating, actually beats the maxi cosi on safety but loses points for having a gloomy view! Daft. Its isofix base is much ... more

Advantages Advantages Great for baby to walking, wider, studier, taller but still with great manoeuvrability.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Hood is a bit lightweight and can get in the way when seat is fully reclined

I have had Maclaren buggies since my son was 6 months old. My son is now just over 3 years and I have a 10 month old daughter. My last Maclaren was the techno xt which I have just swapped for the xlr for a number of reasons: 1. The xlr is bigger so can hold either my son or daughter comfortably. It is wider so my son is not squashed in and there is a lot more headroom. Although it is wider it is still narrow enough. 2. Its weight limit is a lot higher than most lightweight buggies at well over 20kgs which once again means that I can use it for both children, plus it also fits a car seat if ... more
