    Advantages Advantages good coverage

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

After the BBC had lost the right to yet another major sporting event, I thought here we go, no more Murray Walker, no more good coverage, but when credit has to be given I’m not that kind of person to shy a way. I must admit that the coverage was first class, it didn’t even other me that it wasn’t on the Beeb anymore. They gave just enough attention to it. Most importantly they managed to get the services of Walker who even though now is going to retire has helped in making it a successful first year for the ITV sports team. Martin Brundle his co commentator does an equally ... more

Advantages Advantages funny, knowledge of the sport

Disadvantages Disadvantages he'll have to retire one day

Formula 1 without Murray Walker just wouldn't be the same, I have never yet heard a sports commentator who has such passion. His ability to remember statistics from 50 years ago is unbelievable especially when he gets the modern drivers names muddled up. But his "murrayisms" are what makes listening to him so enjoyable. Recently he wasn't there because he injured himself driving his fathers old motorbike, it just wasn't the same. James Allen did a great job but Murray is a hard act to follow. The team of Murray and Martin Brundle is perfect, Murray with his passion and enthusiasm and Martin ... more

    Advantages Advantages Committment, enthusiasm

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't think of any

Murray Walker has commentated on almost every single Grand Prix race over the last 50 years. His commentating is excellent, and he will be a hard act to follow. He is respected by drivers, and everyone in Formula One. Why then has he not received a knighthood for services to sport. He may not have won a race, or been part of a F1 team, but he has done a great service to the public, and it is partly down to him, why Formula One is so great. People tune in to watch F1, not just to see their favourite drivers, and teams, but to listen to Murray Walker, and his great style commentry. I hope his ... more

    Advantages Advantages The man

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

The change over from BBC to ITV has been a little painful with the introduction of advertising to the sport. Its so annoying that when something important and exciting is about to happen we have to go to a break. Thank goodness for Murray Walker then the saviour of Formula 1. This man is so good at his job, ok he gets things wrong more often than not, but his passion and commitment to the sport is unrivalled by anyone. I think his critics should stand up and be ashamed at their treatment of this man. Formula One need him more than he needs Formula 1. So 3 cheers for Murray!!! ... more

Advantages Advantages Great voice, livens up the races

Disadvantages Disadvantages Well, a tiny bit senile but who cares?

Yes, Murray Walker is old. Yes, Murray Walker is senile AND yes Murray Walker mixes up cars but he is still undeniably the best sports commentator despite all these faults. His voice is that of a Ferrari V12 engine and the enthusiasm he puts into his job his fantastic. Martin Brundle is there to keep him in check and most of the time he does a great job and livens up the races immensely. He can also relate to hundred of other races which no other sports commentator can do. Without Murray, F1 would be dead. F1 is dying due to the boredom i.e Hungary - of most races for people who watch but ... more

Advantages Advantages replacement could only be better

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

I really enjoy formula one racing but that enjoyment is being spoiled by Murray Walker. He used to be very good at his job but he is now a joke constantly being corrected. He is forever mixing up cars drivers and screaming down the mike false information. Time to call it a day Murray before you become more of a laughing stock than you already areIn handing over the reins to a younger and more capable man you will leave still with some cred and certainly made my enjoyment of Formula one more tolerable ... more

Long live Murray! Murray Walker has been our frontman on motorsports for over 50 years. I think he should go on as long as he is physically able to. I sometimes hate his mistakes but there's nothing like Murray getting excited to liven things up during a Formula 1 Grand Prix race. When the time does come however to say goodbye to Mr Walker, as for his replacement, I personally think that Martin Brundle is doing an excellent job as his sidekick (always correcting those Walkerisms!), and James Allen wasn't too bad either when he stood in for Murray in France. Actually, let's hope that Murray ... more

Isn't it about time Murray Walker retired. OK in his earlier years he wasn't bad at his chosen career, but now ... he's past it. It's a chore watching the F1 now having to listen to his inscecent drivelling. Most of the time Martin Brundell has to put him right on who's in which car and is always correcting his mistakes. He's too old to keep up with the new cars and technology. At the start ot each race he starts the drivers of with his boring "Go go go".Please no more. It's far better to watch the TV in silence than to listen to him going on and on and on ... get the picture? ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good humoured, enthusiastic.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Excitable, repetitive, incompetant, has become a caricature.

Why are we English so protective of our crumbling monuments? Houses, statues, vehicles, memoirs of a bygone age, as they rust and erode are lovingly restored. It will, however need more than a coat of paint and some Polyfiller to keep Murray Walker on track much longer. Murray, we are told, is an institution. To my mind he should be confined in one. Every second Sunday of the Grand Prix season this sad, bumbling man ruins my enjoyment of a heroic sporting contest. As he wrongly identifies the team, the driver and occasionally the venue, he enthrals me with his repetitions, clichés, apologies ... more

Murray Walker has to be quite simply the best thing about Formula One. In general, Formula One races are very interesting, but there are often moments when the cars are just following one another and there isn’t much going on. It is at times like this that you realise how wonderful Murray is, as, instead of flicking to another channel, I find that I keep watching just to hear what he has to say. Murray is well-known for making mistakes like calling Eddie Jordan ‘Eddie Irvine’, and vice versa, but this all adds to his charm. During a recent race weekend , there was an incident and a couple of ... more
