Advantages Advantages Great taste, lots of varieties available, fantastic price.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None.

New York Bakery Bagels are my favourite brand by far and a packet of 5 is available from £1.13 from Tesco or www.tesco.co.uk and these are packaged in a plastic bag with a neck seal tab and this means that you can undo the bag, take out just one or two bagels & then reseal them for freshness. These dough is produced, simmered in boiling water & then the bagels are stonebaked and they take on the most fantastic flavour & appearance. The outside of this particular bagel is glazed and a lovely light brown colour. These bagels can be toasted or eaten as they come, I generally toast these and I ... more

The New York bakery company make a range of delicious bagels in a variety of flavours including plain, multi-seed and cinnamon and raisin. This review is for the cinnamon and raisin bagels which are currently on offer at Tescos for £1.00 for a pack of 5 (usual price £1.25). The packaging is bright and distinctive with a large picture of lady liberty on the front along with the company name. At the back of the packet we are told that the company use the finest quality ingredients and an authentic method of simmering the dough in boiling water which seals in the flavour and creates a unique ... more

Advantages Advantages Great with lots of different fillings, Lower fat than most white bread

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be too chewy for some people

***NEW YORK BAGELS*** New York bagels were founded in 1907 in New York City. Here making bagels became an art, simmering the raw dough in boiling water prior to baking was the best kept secret to create the chewy texture and lock in the flavour. The bagels were then stone-baked to create the ultimate perfect outer crust. Bagels are one of the most nutritious bread products you can eat and ounce for ounce have less than half the fat of most white breads. New York Bagels are low in fat with less than 2% fat in their plain bagel. New York bagels come in 7 yummy flavours including: • Plain • ... more

You can call me stupid if you like, but I never really knew what a bagel was until I ate one a few weeks ago. Since then, I've been addicted! Coming in at just 2% fat and 10% sugar, they are a surprisingly healthy product considering how sweet and enjoyable they are to eat. They are ideal toasted, and challenge the standard bread toasted (at 5% fat and 7% sugar) as a healthy alternative. A bagel is (consults wikipedia): a bread product that is part boiled before baking. These ones are flavoured with cinnamon and raisins. Basically, they look like doughnut shaped fruit buns, but taste even ... more

You cant get closer to new york than this product for bagels, i go to new york maybe 2 or 3 times in the year and to be honest your not gonna get a better tasting bagel in the uk they taste like originals, soft and chewy or if you prefer just pop them in a toaster or under a grill for a couple of minutes and top with some soft cream cheese and some cappers! Lovely just how the New Yorkers do, or am alternative is with some crispy bacon and a slice of cheese on top, also there really good price they are really filling as something for breakfast or even as something for lunch if you have never ... more

Today I have had a little bit of a disaster. I woke up this morning and discovered that the freezer door had been left open all night and so today it has been a case of trying to salvage as much as I can. I managed to cook a few of the things and I won't even try to begin to describe the bizarre combination of food that ended up on my plate. Anyway every cloud has a silver lining or so they say and one good thing that came out of this was that I found a packet of New York Bagels at the back of my freezer that I had forgotten all about. So what is a Bagel? Bagels are round in shape with a hole ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap and tasty

Disadvantages Disadvantages Only 5 in a packet

I've been buying New York Bagels on and off for years. They usually cost about 99p-£1.20 for a pack of 5 but I sometimes get a pack free when I buy "Philadelphia" cheese spread. It tastes lovely on a toasted bagel and I often scoff one for breakfast. Now, these bagels come in a few varieties. There is plain, onion, sesame seed, poppy seed and cinammon and raisin. I've also seen a special edition chocolate flavour bagel, which apparently goes well with strawberries and cream according to the packet. I've never been brave enough to buy them though! I haven't tried the seeded kind either and I ... more

Advantages Advantages Already sliced in half!!!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Only 5 in a pack!

I had never tried bagels until six months ago when, after hearing all my friends raving about them, I just had to see what the fuss was all about. Now I have tried many different kinds and these do seem to come out tops! The thing about most bagels is that they don't come sliced, but not the New York bagels! To some this many seem an unimportant extra but to me it is integral, just wait until you try and slice one without slicing your finger in half aswell! I think you will find it tricky, or it is just me! For those, like one of my good friends, who like to eat them whole and unsliced these ... more

Advantages Advantages low fat and high flavour, great for a healthy snack

Disadvantages Disadvantages not always available at local sainsburys

I like breakfast, I like elevenses, I like snacks, I like supper, and I like bagels. I first tried New York bagels as they were on a buy one get one free offer at the bakery section of Sainsbury and the fresh cooked bread section smelled so good, I just lingered around buying lots of goodies. I toast my bagels, lightly and spread them with lowfat margarine as I try to keep with the idea that they are healthy, but when my girlie friends come round on an evening, we often toast them and spread them with cream cheese and they taste like a slice of heaven. The cinnamon & raisin bagels taste moist ... more

    Advantages Advantages Lovely toasted

Disadvantages Disadvantages Why does it have a hole?

I could never do the Atkins diet, I love bread of many varieties but I was quite late in discovering the delights of a bagel. New York Bagels are probably the most common available in the UK. First of all what is a Bagel? It is a chewy, ring shape roll that is shiny on the outside and has a very dense but beautifully soft inside. According to my bread recipe book it was originally used as the everyday bread of Eastern European Jews, but now people associate it more with New Yorkers. The difference between a Bagel and a regular roll is that firstly the Bagel doesn’t need any added fat ... more
