Bye bye Nokia I'm sorry to say that I won't be missing you I am a man who likes his tech toys so I am always chopping and changing my mobiles on a regular basis. I tend to buy them outright rather be locked into a contract for two years since technology moves at such a rapid pace and I like to keep abreast of the latest developments. The last phone I bought was the Nokia Lumia 800 about 6 months ago and as I am now changing to a Nexus 4 I thought I would write a review and share my findings of living with the phone for the past few months. The look I thought I would start with the look of the ... more

Advantages Advantages Fantastic layout, great colour, good quality camera

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor battery life, not as many developed apps available

I've always gone from phone to phone. University seemed to churn them out with them getting broken and lost left, right and centre! After several £40 phones and numerous unopened SIM cards, I decided to take the plunge into contract phones! I had one main decision when it came to choosing phones for me. iPhone 4 or Lumia 800? How long does it take for you to be sitting on a bus, walking through a shop or even in your own home, before you see someone pull out an iPhone? Obviously this happens for a reason. There must obviously be good reason for it! After plenty of time and reviews online I ... more

INTRODUCTION I am a total mobile maniac. I love to keep switching mobile phones, to explore each of them, compare and arrive at a conclusion so that I can help people to choose the right phone they are looking for. I had an android phone of a famous brand previously. I suddenly felt it was time to switch to a new(better) phone and begin my exploration. As I was browsing for tha latest introductions in the market, I came across the New The Nokia Lumia 800. The moment I saw its picture, I got the feel that it was for me. So I exchanged my previous phone and bought Nokia Lumia 800 in the next one ... more

Advantages Advantages Stylish, robust, easy to use, well-made, bright, colourful screen.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Camera doesn't live up to expectations, Mandatory Zune installation, some key apps feel unfinished

The Lumia family of Nokia smartphones is widely accepted by cellphone experts to be the equivalent of a last-ditch comeback tour by a hairy old rock band. Once, Nokia cellphones were ubiquitous; in their green-screen heyday it seemed like everyone and their dog had one. The standard Nokia ringtone was so commonly heard that urban sparrows started trilling 'Nokia Tune' as part of their dawn chorus repertoire. However, all empires crumble and today's Nokia, despite some solid success stories - such as the photographer's favourite N8 handset - is no longer the mobile comms Titan of old, mostly ... more

When I went to buy a new phone on contract, I wasn't looking to spend over £20 per month, and so didn't expect to get an amazing phone. This phone stood out to me right away, it's so beautiful! When I saw it, I had a play on it, and thought 'wish I had more money to buy a phone like this'. It was to my surprise that the Nokia Lumia 800 was to be free for £20.50 a month on Orange. Even though the contract was for a whole 24 months, the amount I would pay by the end would be barely larger than the amount the phone would cost on pay as you go. And with 500mb of internet, unlimited texts and 100 ... more

Advantages Advantages User friendly interface, Gorillaglass technology, Made of polycarbonate

Disadvantages Disadvantages No microSD slot, cannot send files via Bluetooth.

Packaging Nokia Lumia 800 comes in a compact package, including: the smartphone itself, instructions, USB ( Data) cable, recharging device, headphones ( admirations to Nokia for this great supplement, which in my opinion should be added in every mobile device's packaging ) and another great thing included is case for the phone( it's a rubber one, not the best there is, but at lest it's something), which is really cool. Exterior Nokia Lumia 800 fits in the hand perfectly, it's neither too big or too small. The phone is made by polycarbonate and it's really good, because if there are some ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lack of top quality apps and no front facing camera.

I have now had the Nokia Lumia 800 for 3 months and I have put it through its paces both as a leisure phone and a business phone. The looks and finish of this mobile are top quality. I really appreciate the thought process that has gone into this phone. The screen sits up from the body of the phone which gives it definition and makes the screen very comfortable to use. The screen is also very robust. I store my mobile in my trouser pockets and I have not one scratch on the screen. The phone also comes with a very neat rubber sleeve. This phone operates on Windows Mango OS and in conjunction ... more

    Advantages Advantages Lovely touch screen.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Shocking Battery. Confusing and non-working support. Not ergonomically friendly at times

I took this phone as part of an upgrade. Within a day I had taken the original handset back to the shop as the standby time (quoted at 12 days by Orange) equated to closer to 12 hours without pressing a button. I stuck the phone on my bedside one night with the battery showing at 40%: went to sleep and by the morning it was completely flat.It seemed Nokia had acknowledged the problem, and provided a 'software update' to cure it via their PC software- 'Zune'. I downloaded this software, and discovered the phone would not update. Being a patient chap I tried this upgrade on 4 different computers ... more

it's a great piece of hardware but os apps wise it's lacking - these are a few of the things that have been annoying me 1) supposedly not getting the update to Win8 2) no way to filter calls sms 3)no way to alter the rather over sized fonts wasting a lot of screen space 4)one volume control - this is just silly - no separate volume for alarm ring tone mail audio? 5) no file manager which has made it surprisingly difficult to get it to attach to my windows home server 6) hardly any decent apps - I know this will improve with time 7) many apps that are available are expensive compared to android ... more

I would personally say that after 3 months of owning the Lumia 800, it is much better than the iPhone 4S. The style of the phone looks a lot nicer than the iPhone, and the curved screen on the Lumia mean using it is much easier. The Windows mobile, is also a lot better than the iOS, its easier to use, nicer to use and just feels a lot better all round. If you are upgrading from an older phone which is past its best, or an iPhone or other phone, the Lumia is the right phone for anyone to use. The fact that it covers almost everything that you could want from a phone means anyone can use it and ... more
