Disadvantages Disadvantages They cannot be trusted

These guys will do their level best to cheat you out of your money. They are an unprincipled bunch of swindlers who try to hide behind vague catch-all statements in their terms and conditions. Basically, outside of the legalese in which their terms and conditions are written, nothing that they say can be trusted, and event then you need a law degree to understand exactly what those conditions are and what they imply for the future. They will do all they can to blame you for having signed an agreement with them in the first place. If you have any other choice of company you should certainly go ... more

'Darling buds of decay' ~ Northern Rock part 2 ~ Please Note : > This review is based on the Northern Rock fiasco < Are we about to see more long queues outside Northern Rock again, like in September 2007? Now that the head of department has gone 'the fall guy'; we could now be witnessing a reality check credit carnage worse than Barings Bank. I am now feeling sorry for Mr. Adam Applegarth (the fall guy) which is highly unusual for me; as since his resignation nothing has changed. Northern Rock shares are lifeless in the market and scarcely rising to any form of normality. This is just 2 ... more

1 Star Quick review of Northern Rock by buddhamcbuddha 28/07/2007
Incompetent. Arrogant. Unhelpful. Beauraucratic. Slow. Money grabbing. I'm still waiting for the results of a survey I instructed weeks ago. My vendor is threatening to pull out of the sale for the third time. They never do what they promise & you speak to a different person every time you call. They call me on the pretext of resolving my complaonts but are only interested in defending taking money from my account without permision. They behave like a company on the verge of bankrupcy

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Bit Slow

Northern Rock are one of the cheapest lenders around for mortgages and even if you have credit problems in the past they will still help you. We took out a together mortgage with Northern Rock some three years ago and opted for the fixed rate. Obviously like all other lenders on fixed rate if you decide to move or sell up prior to the end of term then there is a retention figure to pay which in our case was as much as £3,000. Anyway they tell you all of this when you are offered the mortgage and it is all clealy stated in the paperwork that you receive. Initially I was impressed with how ... more

My boyfriend and I have recently purchased a house with a Northern Rock Together Mortgage. The description from Northern Rocks' website of this mortgage is: Together is more than just a flexible mortgage. It gives you the money to buy your home as well as a cash reserve to give you money for the things you want. All at the same interest rate. It's ideal for first time buyers and it's flexible, so it changes as your life changes. A together mortgage adapts to your needs. From helping you onto the housing ladder to moving to a bigger place, extending your home and providing extra cash when you ... more

Advantages Advantages Will provide you with a 100% mortgage

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Very inefficient

We got a 90% mortage with NR in April 2004 and opted for a 2 year fixed rate because we were new to mortages and wanted to budget our money. We made all the repayments and 3 months before the deal was due to expire, we shopped around to see what deals were available. NR seemed to be the best so we decided on another 2 year fixed and called them. We thought 2 months notice was enough for them. But when we received letters to suggest we hadn't got our deal we called them AGAIN. They denied ever talking to us! Their customer service is disgusting, nothing short of abuse and lies. We finally got ... more

As a bit of background - I bought a house in late 2005 and after visiting an independent mortgage adviser I went through the options available to me. I had already seen the house I wanted to buy (£185,000), had no deposit and needed at least £10,000 on top of the mortgage to pay for building work and basic furnishings. After providing all the details to the adviser he recommended Northern Rock - mainly because they were the only provider who would touch me with a barge pole. Northern Rock were prepared to offer me 95% of the purchase price as a mortgage secured on the property, which meant ... more

After getting married, moving home etc, my wife and I had accrued a fair amount of debt on credit cards. We applied for consolidation loans but as usual, when you need help most, it's not forthcoming. Then my wife suggested remortgaging through Northern Rock's Together Mortgage. This would enable us to borrow 125% LTV at one decent rate (5.5%). So, we arranged an appointment with an advisor at a branch, who was brilliant. We took in a spreadsheet to show what we could afford each month and how the Together product would, in our eyes help us out by paying off our debts. The advisor agreed that ... more

First Impressions and thoughts on Northen Rock When me and my partner decided to buy our first property in september 2004 we shopped around a bit to see who was best. We are a young couple living in London, with good salaries but at that time little in the way of savings, a few grand but not enough to put 5% down on a mortgage. We were really scared of the idea of a 100% mortgage though as all the top financial bods seem to be really against them. However when we started looking into the way that Northen Rock do things we discovered that we could have our cake and eat it. With the Together ... more

My wife and I wanted to get ourselves on the property ladder and, as many young people in the south of England, we found it very hard to find a lender that would give us enough to buy anything larger than a bedsit. Our mortgage broker found a mortgage with Northern Rock which would lend us what we needed to but a sensible house. I would consider our earnings to be reasonably healthy but main high street lenders were offering around £100K which for Sussex is pretty useless. Northern Rock offered us £175K which we took up. Considering we were paying rent of £750 per month and the mortgage, which ... more
