Advantages Advantages Of having a digitial tv as opposed to a box (which we had previously) the main advantage is that only one remote is needed as it is a fully digital service

Disadvantages Disadvantages It took a bit of messing around to actually activate the service, which could have been avoided if literature was clearer. For example make sure you are in front of your TV and only the account holder can activate the account

I have just had a frustrating hour or so trying to activate my new digitial package with ITV digitial and I can now see why a monkey is an apt character for their brand. Foolishly I thought it would be simple - order new Sony 32" TV from Box Clever, get TV delivered and watch the digital pictures till my eyes go funny. But no, order lovely digital TV from Box Clever but as they haven't got it in stock I had to wait a couple of weeks for a phone call to arrange delivery. TV gets delivered but the lovely delivery guys have forgotten their screwdriver and so can't install the necessary smartcard ... more

ONdigital was set up as a major company to provide digital TV throughout the UK. But I have revealled that there is a big problem. When it was taken over bi ITV to form ITV Digital it started charging for football, as where on digital never. Customers are not happy with this and requesting a refund can be harder than you think because you have to prove that you only bought the ON digital box specifically for the football before they even think of giving you some form of refund. I just though I would let people know incase you never watched Watchdog on BBC1 last night. I personally think Sky ... more

Advantages Advantages No waiting for installation. No Dish. Can be up and running the same day you sign up if you pick up your set top box from a retailer. Clear, crisp pictures and sound. Good quality channel line up, with unique service such as Internet access. Pay-per-view.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can require an aerial upgrade if it is damaged or old.

***I have asked for this opinion to be removed as i have posted it in the ITVdigital section under this category. Please rate that opinion, not his one. Thanks!*** ITV Digital (previously called ONdigital) is Britain?s only Digital Terrestrial Television platform. Basically in simple terms, if you hook up a set top box or Integrated Digital Television to your aerial, you will get ITV Digital. With ITV Digital you get free to air channels such as those from the ITV Network and those provided by the funding from your TV licence. Other channels are also available free to air such as the ITN News ... more

Advantages Advantages E4 Sky one, and men and motors

Disadvantages Disadvantages Uk Gold and the odd car program on men and motors

Although I have previously bashed ITV Digital for it's useless coverage and over priced football. I would like to say that you still have most of the channels that you can get from sky and for relatively the same price. If you yourself go for the pre paid options here is a genral opinion on the primary channel options: Sky one: Great if you want to watch the simpsons all day and think Homer is the icon that all men should aim to aspire to Play UK: British music and comedy - a very good channel UK Gold: If you are like me and can't remember why you hated soaps like east enders and Neighbours ... more

Advantages Advantages No dish or wiring

Disadvantages Disadvantages No reception, never delivered when they said they would, contradictory customer support.

I must state first of all that the experience I'm about to relate was with *On Digital* and not *ITV Digital* as it is now called. I have no idea whether anything has changed or not, but I really hope it has. We decided late last year after having no phone or television for 24hrs for the umpteenth time due to either junction box problems or the area junction box being vandalised that we would leave NTL and go back to BT and get Sky Digital. It was while investigating that I decided to give On Digital a try as where we live the local residents association take a dim view of sattelite dishes ... more

    Advantages Advantages can cherry-pick channels

Disadvantages Disadvantages unless you mix with another service it can be expensive

Let me explain. I have subscribed to Telewest (Yorkshire Cable flavour) for years with their telephone service (@£9.60 per month line rental which includes several digital TV channels), Cable Internet (Blue Yonder flavour) @£10 per month flat monthly charge) with excellent value and no problems. Then for TV I had the Telewest Digital Supreme Pack which is £13.40 + the charge for the phone, total £23. On top of that, I needed football so I had to have Sky Sports 1 & 3 which cost me another £13 so I was paying £46 a month to Telewest for phone, net and Digital TV, plus phone call charges. Sky ... more

ITV Digital, the new name for On-Digital is advertised by a right cheeky monkey. I work at Boxclever TV shop and the posters of the monkey are attracting people of all ages. So much so that we have signed loads of new and old people up to this newly launched product. When I say newly launched , I mean re-launched under a new name. Old On-Digital customers who came off the scheme have now come back to the company as it will feature a brand new sports channel. This channel is called ITV Sports channel. Before you even think of getting a box, the assistant must check your postcode to make sure ... more

Advantages Advantages Extra variety of channels/programmes, not too expensive, it's the future!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Technical glitches, lots of poor channels and not that many good ones.

Well I haven’t actually noticed any obnoxious odours coming out of my ONdigital box, but it certainly does have some very unpleasant habits. Having said that it also has some 36GG assets, namely the extra channels. The digital television age was much anticipated and when it finally arrived years after the hype had begun (I think that begun with the release of digital watches) it was still hailed as the future. A few years on and it is time to consider the differences that digital television has made to our viewing. For about a decade Satellite TV (namely BskyB) has provided a huge ... more

Advantages Advantages cheap, extra channels, interactive features

Disadvantages Disadvantages not such a great choice of channels as Sky

Left alone in St Andrews after my exams - all my friends had sensibly gone home for a bit whereas I wasn’t allowed :-( the boredom rapidly set in. I work for the local museum but there’s not much work about until July and August (then there’s loads) and so consequently I have very little to do. Anyway, it was this feeling of boredom that led me to purchase On Digital – I figured that with a few more channels to choose from, at least there would be a higher chance of finding something I wanted to watch. I’m a bit of a soap addict, love sitcoms such as Men Behaving ... more

We subscribed to On Digital about a fortnight ago and I have to say that we have been impressed by the picture quality and service from On Digital. We were prompted to subscribe by the special offer of two months of Sky Sports for free and got a great deal of pleasure watching the Second Test match against Pakistan and the football play off matches from Cardiff. Hugely impressed by the quality of sports coverage on Sky Sports, it really does leave it's rivals languishing far behind. I am still a bit puzzled, however, about the merits of paying a monthly subscription against getting a prepaid ... more
