    The DMP-BD30 is half the price of its predecessor (the original Blu-ray player - BDP-10A was £700). This makes the upscaling to Blu-ray far more appealing and many people will buy this product and invest in Blu-rays. Nevertheless, the question still remains, why don't people buy PS3s which can play Blu-rays as well as HD games and a lot more? Well, the PS3 cannot upscale non-Blu-ray DVDs as well as the DMP-BD30 and the audio functionality is very complicated on the PS3. Overall however, the PS3 is very capable of playing Blu-ray.
