Advantages Advantages None 5 calls on 4 days to speak to a supervisor

Disadvantages Disadvantages Cost and Non Pay Out

Be Aware . My dog had a mild heart murmer picked up on his first check up and was told he would grow out of it! At the end of his check up i was provided with 28 days free insurance from pet plan off my vets. At the end of this period we took out a full policy and were told these were the best company to deal with. ( What a Joke ). My poor 8 month old black Lab developed a terminal faulty heart valve and has had scans and lots of medication in the last 2 months. I Paid the excess and thought nothing more of it until we recived a letter off pet plan stating that they declined to pay as this was ... more

I have 3 Cavalier King Charles, ages 2,5 and 7 years. I was on the highest insurance policy with Pet Plan (which is no longer available, they took it off sale just after that programe on TV a couple of years ago about Cavalier King Charles brains growing to big for there heads and that is what affected a lot of dogs) I had unlimited cover for life, paying a monthly premium of around £95. When the time came for my renewal I had noticed they had changed the cover from unlimited to £12,000 and at the same time increased the premium to around £107 monthly, i don't have a problem paying the premium ... more

Advantages Advantages None - they backdate exclusions onto the policy and change the rules

Disadvantages Disadvantages Everything - mis sold - staff do not understand breeds

I have been with Pet Plan for just over a year and now that my dog requires dental work they have decided to backdate the policy to exclude him because he has an undershot jaw which is actually a normal characteristic of the breed. Even though my vet has written to them they are still not giving in - I have reported them to the Financial Ombudsman as I feel that we have been mis-sold the policy and also informed the kennel club to ensure that breeders of Pugs, Boxers are aware of this discrimination. However, when you make the call to insure this breed they won't tell you of the exclusion ... more

    Advantages Advantages Quick and Easy

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I have had a Horse Insurance Policy with Pet Plan for a few years. I would highly rate them - they offer 0% to spread the payments and it takes literally seconds to set up cover. I have had to claim in the past and found them to be very efficient and helpful. Their calls are asnwered quickly and professionally. Pet Plan offer a range of policies as well, I have both my older horse and another younger one insured and their prices in my opinion are fairly reasonable. I have tried other insurance companies in the past and although others may offer a cheaper policy, I have learned the hard way ... more

Advantages Advantages MORE COMPREHENSIVE THAN MOST PET POLICIES

Disadvantages Disadvantages VERY EXPENSIVE. HAVE UNREASONABLE INTERPRETATION OF EXCLUSION CLAUSES

I started using and recommending Pet Plan 14 years ago. I'm a member of their Breeder Scheme. Now I'm concerned about their exclusion policy and attempts to wriggle out of paying for claims. My son has a problem with his dog - a Cavalier. He insured his puppy a couple of weeks after buying her. On her visit to the vet for vaccinations the vet dispensed some eye drops because she had a tiny discharge (very common in young puppies). She is now 2 years old and has a swelling on her right eye. The chances are that she has some kind of growth which is causing the eye ball to be pushed forward. The ... more

Advantages Advantages Covers older pets, easy to sort out claims

Disadvantages Disadvantages slightly more expensive then some others around

In the past I have had some hefty bills from the vets after animals have been in fights or had accidents. Only on one occasion did we opt for putting the animal down and that was because he had been hit by a car and the injuries were too much to fix. Even then we were faced with a large bill to pay. I love my animals and I couldn't imagine living without them so when we visited our cats at the shelter before they came home with us I looked into pet insurance. Most insurers were saying about £5-£10 a month and all kind of cover but the down side was that once they got to 8 years and over their ... more

    Advantages Advantages None

Disadvantages Disadvantages They sell you the wrong policy and then change it without warning you in advance

Let me warn you that Petplan is not all is seems to be, and they certainly don\'t live up to the promises that they make. I have been fighting with them on my mothers behalf recently, and they seriously do like to drag out paying you for as long as possible. I have had to make many calls to thier claim department in the past year. Indeed I made one this morning. When my mother rescued her dog last year I strongly advised that she take out life cover insurance as the breed of dog that she rescued has a history of back problems. This was fine in the first year and they even paid out for the ... more

Advantages Advantages rapid payment easy forms

    Disadvantages Disadvantages expensive

I am reviewing this product not as someone who uses the insurance but as the Vet that has to fill the forms in and rely on the resulting payment. IMAGE Pet plan is a well established pet insurance company with excellent communication with both the pet owner and the veterinary community - My surgery has regular visits from the reps to inform us of the latest company development and provide us with a veterinary help line so we can resolve claim difficulties quickly. SERVICE If one of my clients needs to use there policy a form is delivered to them rapidly or they can use one of the veterinary ... more

    Advantages Advantages covered for life

Disadvantages Disadvantages expensive when u have more than one pet

when i got a pomeranian puppy i did nt know anything about insurance. when i got him his shots i was given 6 weeks free cover by pet-plan which was great but i really had no intention of keeping it on. several weeks later , in fact within 4 weeks of this free gift of temp. insurance my dog who was only 14 weeks old recieved a broken leg when a small child stood on him. Pet plan took the hassle out of it. for me the cost was unthinkable. after paying out the excess myself pet plan paid the rest. they still have him covered for this same condition for life as long as i pay the policy. unlike ... more

Advantages Advantages Good for peace of mind

Disadvantages Disadvantages No rewards if you hadn't had to claim

Many many moons ago (about eleven years) we ended up with a cute little kitten. I hadn't planned on owning a cat not really a cat person but it was going to be put down. Not long before getting the cat we had had a range of animals one of which was dog. The dog was alovely pet but unfortunate he was not a well dog and had many years of illness before he had to be put down. So knowing how expensive pets bills can be we decided the best thing to do would be to take out a pet plan to be on the safe side. For the last eleven years we have had the policy and lucky the cat has been fine. What I ... more
