Advantages Advantages Looks great and is cordless.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be heavy when full.

I would just like to add once the kettle is full with water it is very heavy, People with wrist problems could not take the weight. But as the base contains a flat concealed element it allows it to bboil with very little water in. This is good for the environment as it reduces the amount of energy required to boil a cup of water. It does take longer to boil than a more modern kettle but the looks of the kettle compliment any kitchen. Stainless steel cleaner seems the best product to use to keep the kettle clean and sparkling. Limescale marks the kettle quite easily. If living in a soft water ... more

    Advantages Advantages Attractive stainless steel.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slower than some of the modern kettles.

This kettle is a well made example as expected from a maker such as Philips. I bought it many years ago for around the £40 mark if i remember correctly. It is attractive being stainless steel but does require careful cleaning to maintain the bright apperance. I maintain mine using viakal. If you live in a soft water area it will take less maintainence as there is less limescale present in the water. It boils quick as the element covers almost the entire base of the kettle. You can boil from as little as a cup of water to a full 1.7 litres if you want. The less you boil the better for the ... more

Advantages Advantages Robust washable filter, Smart Appearance, Easy Pour

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Don't overfill it

We bought our Phillips kettle at a local auction, which has the only licence for electrical goods in our part of the country, at half price with a full guarantee. so it was a real bargain as it was the exact same one we were planning on buying in the shops at full price, which was around £50 at the time, but we found it would have been a good buy even if we had paid the full price. Prices have gone down at the moment, because of similiar designs from other makes. Even after nearly 4 years in a hard water area, the filter has held out, only now just starting to show signs of wear. The inside is ... more

Advantages Advantages Can boil small quantities, ease of use and good looks.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

Sleek, slightly ‘retro’ styling and stainless good looks attracted me to this particular kettle. The fact that it is cordless and easy to use was an added bonus. Unlike some cordless kettles, where you have to boil a fair amount of water to cover the element, the Phillips Filterline HD4601 has an element which is almost flush with the bottom of the kettle, meaning you can boil quite small amounts. This is important for several reasons; economy of use, speed and weight. The weight factor is important to me because I have trouble with my wrists and find lifting heavy items can be ... more

Advantages Advantages long lasting, washable filter

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

I bought this kettle nearly 7 years ago and it is still going strong! It is a cordless one and so it makes it really easy to pour from without getting tangled in flex, and it has a filter which is an essential extra when you live in a hard water area like Lincolnshire. I have never had any trouble with it and I am only on my second filter, having had to buy a replacement one beacue I accidentally tore the first while vigorously cleaning the scale from it. My fault, not Philips!! I strongly recommend this kettle as it is pretty much as good as they get and only costs about £30. ... more
