Advantages Advantages Handy quick dishes using storecupboard standbys

Disadvantages Disadvantages You might have to keep making them!

Being a working mum with two hungry boys to feed, I have learned the importance of rustling up simple, quick dishes in as little time as possible. So here is a selection of my favourite standby items and quick snacks that can be rustled up in the time that it takes a child to say "Mum! I'm hungry!" Quesadillas These are great for kids of all ages, especially as you can hold your head up high amongst all the yummy mummies at the school gates when your two year old is asking for Quesadillas for tea! Basically, a quesadilla is a kind of mexican version of cheese on toast. Take one flour tortilla ... more

If you have read any of my other food/recipe reviews then you will no that cooking is not my strong point but I have a few favourite dishes that never go wrong and this is one of them. A few weeks ago at work one of my colleagues was eating something called habas fritas. I tried it not knowing what it was except that it was very tasty. I was then told that it was fried broadbeans. I then admitted that I'd never had broadbeans and didn't know how to serve them. This is when I was told of a recipe which I have adapted to suit my taste. ~Ingredients~ Broadbeans Bacon Mushrooms Pitta bread ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy peasy. Good for adults, some kids can't take the chilli.

Disadvantages Disadvantages some kids can't take the chilli.

These are easy peasy and mainly good for adults, but some kids can't take the chilli. They're nice as a snack or as part of a buffet. I love these either as a cracker with cheese on, as a dipper (they're lovely in guacamole, but they do go a bit soggy) What you'll need: -155g plain flour -1/2 tsp mustard (whole grain is nice because it gives extra texture, but anything will work) -90g butter/marg -60g grated cheddar (mature gives much more flavour than mild) -2-4 chillis, seeded and sliced (the hotter you like things, the more chilli; even if you like things hot, don't leave the seeds in, it ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, better/equal to leading brand

Disadvantages Disadvantages There are no disadvantages to the might Euroshopper Jaffa Cake.

Whilst this is not a recipe as such, it's something that's very important to me, and that's finding a good quality product at a bargain price! I have long been completely obsessed with Jaffa Cake, often resorting to theft and selling my body to get my next fix. Even when the ruling that the Jaffa Cake was, after all a cake and not a biscuit (Therefore allowing it to escape the dreaded chocolate covered biscuit tax) I was still struggling. That all changed with the discovery of the Euroshopper Jaffa Cake. Euroshopper are a brand selling budget products, I have never seen them availible in major ... more

Advantages Advantages Quick and easy to make

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not all ingredients available everywhere!

I tend to be a constant grazer, at work I tend to graze on fruit or vegetable sticks (how exciting!!) and then by the time I get to work I just fancy something tasty and filling! I go through phases, for weeks and weeks I will snack on the same thing over and over, then I will suddenly go off it and won't eat it for months! At the moment I'm into chips and dip! Or pitta bread and dip! I've got to say I quite like the new range of dips which supermarkets are bringing out as they are improving the taste and bringing out new varieties. However my mother makes fantastic homemade dips, generally ... more
