Advantages Advantages Good steaming of food

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Build quality

There are some positives and negatives with this product that sort of leaves me sitting on the fence about whether to recommend it or not however on balance I would find myself toppling off onto the recommend side of things. Better known for its non stick products this steamer was a nice addition to the range when it was launched however it does feel like it is rather cheaply made and it is the build quality that is for me the biggest negative. That is mainly because now after about three years it is on its last legs, unfortunately I cannot remember exactly how much I paid for it so I have no ... more

Advantages Advantages Quick, convenient, simple cooking.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bases of baskets definitely not as good as could be.

---Why I Buy This--- I am not a very adventurous cook but I wanted a basic type of steamer which would cook vegetables easily. I began with a steamer instead of a pressure cooker as I would put potatoes on to cook while I went and collected son from school - and the steamer ensured we had hot food waiting for us when we got back home - and it was safe as it would switch itself off when cooking was completed. ---The Brand--- Tefal is a French cookware and small appliance manufacturer owned by Groupe SEB. Its name is a portmanteau of the words TEFlon and ALuminium. Tefal is known for creating ... more

TEFAL - A LITTLE HISTORY Tefal is a French cookware and small appliance manufacturer owned by Groupe SEB. Groupe SEB is a leading manufacturer in small domestic equipment. The name Tefal is short for the combination of the words Teflon and aluminium. In North America, Brazil and Japan, the company's products are sold under the name T-Fal. Tefal is known for creating the non-stick cookware category. They invented the first non-stick frying pan in 1954. Their mission is to make cooking and ironing easier and faster. Me and my partner had never really thought about getting a steamer until the little one arrived. My daughter has just started on solids and so while she's open minded about the food presented to her, we decided to pack as much vegetables in as possible. We fell for the advertising about how much more nutritious steaming vegetables is and opted for this Tefal model. Once we got it home, the unit and utensils were well packed so there was no damage, the instructions were clear and concise and we even got a free recipe book. I found to my surprise that we could steam eggs and meat as well as ... more

Advantages Advantages Great idea saves time

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

Well, it had to happen, I suppose. All good things must come to a end, as they say. Our faithful steamer gave up the ghost after nearly eight years of Stirling steaming service. Time, we realised, to buy a new one. We decided to make our purchase of a new steamer at the BBC Good Food Show. After circling round and round the stands and displays several times ("too small, too big, doesn't look quite good enough, no WAY" are we paying that much!") we discovered the Tefal stand. We both fell in love with the Tefal Steam Cuisine Steamer. My comment was: "My god, it looks like something out of Star ... more

Advantages Advantages No more boiling over of pans

    Disadvantages Disadvantages fragile bases

Have you ever bought something, and then wondered what you ever did without it? This is now my second steamer (the timer button fell off the first). I have been using Tefal steamers now for about 3 1/2 years, and I love them. I am one of those people who just hate it when the pan boils over. It drives me mad. I also hate having to watch for the pan boiling in order to turn it down. The other thing that annoys me is having to put different veggies on to boil at different times. I first discovered steamers when I visited my aunt for dinner. She’d just bought hers, and was telling me about all ... more

    Advantages Advantages Tasty vegetables

Disadvantages Disadvantages The timer works even if the machine is not switched on

I had never considered buying a steamer before I was given this as a present by my mother in law last Christmas, purely for selfish reasons. I’m not a veggie lover myself, I can take them or leave them so have never been that concerned about the way they are cooked. I must admit since using this, I have noticed a difference in the way the vegetables look and taste. The steamer costs between £30 and £40 and can be purchased from Argos and other department stores. The steamer comprises the following parts:- The base unit which is white, and on which there is a water level indicator, the ... more
