Advantages Advantages Makes 2007 look like 2005

Disadvantages Disadvantages It's gone - who cares?

I don't keep a diary, so cataloging my 2006 will be difficult, at least to keep it in any form of order. However, I DO remember that there were no big changes to my life. I didn't change jobs, partners or houses. In view of the stress caused by these 'big three', I guess I can count myself lucky. I did however do quite a lot of the so-called travelling for pleasure - what an oxymoron that turned out to be. Don't get me wrong, I love going to other places and soaking up the atmosphere of 'being there', the eating out, the people watching and exploring road systems that are as yet un-crowded. I ... more

Advantages Advantages Look at my 2006

Disadvantages Disadvantages Another year over, my review is long

My first review of the New Year and my 70th review! :-) I decided I would write a review about my 2006. I've never written a review like this before so I don't really know where to start but here goes… I sat my first AS modular exams at the beginning of January. It was our first week back to school and I had four exams: biology, chemistry, psychology and geography. I didn't realise just how big the gap between GCSE and AS level is so I didn't revise as much as I should have done. I thought they were all really hard. I started Live Theatre in January. This is a Theatre situated in Newcastle ... more

Advantages Advantages There's a new year ahead

Disadvantages Disadvantages It could be a repeat of last year

I've been contemplating doing a review of my 2006 ever since the year ended but, to be honest, couldn't be bothered at first. I've done them for the past two years and they end up depressing me because I either discover that the year was, in fact, total crud or something wonderful happened that I'm never going to get to experience again. Reminiscing on last year just seems like a really bad idea - 2006 is finished, it's gone; get over it. 2007 is just beginning and already it's swinging towards me with the kinetic pace of a launched wrecking ball. This year I will turn 35 and that, according ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap laughs! Hurrah!

Disadvantages Disadvantages There's a fair chance this won't make logical sense to anyone.

"There's a fair chance that I don't understand what I'm writing while I write it. Well, I understand it, but I don't know what it means. Or at least, I have vague ideas about the starts and ends, but the middle goes nowhere in particular but then links into an end, which I put in simply for the reason that an end has to be somewhere." I don't remember what happened this year, but I happen to keep a journal so…. Here are a few of my favourite entries from 2006. Enjoy! Or… despair, I guess. January: Jan 4th: I've set myself up with some ideas for the new year (they're not resolutions - that way ... more

    Advantages Advantages A good year

Disadvantages Disadvantages Time flies when you're having fun

My memory is not as good as it should be; at 24 I should be as bright as a button but you've got more chance of my great-grandmother remembering things than me. So I hope you appreciate how much of an effort it has been for me to remember what happened in my life during the last year. I never make resolutions as I never keep them anyway, but for the first time last year I decided to set myself some goals. Just a few desires and things to aim for. Firstly, I decided I wanted to go on holiday a bit more than usual. So I did! In January, we spent a week in Martinique. It was incredible. The ... more

Advantages Advantages This has helped me think!

Disadvantages Disadvantages 2006, end of 05 was the worst time of my life in many respects.

    1. What did you do in 2006 that you've never done before? Many things happened that had not happened before. I became a lot better at cooking, and this year went so fast for me it was unbeleivable. I started a Masters degree, I have never done that before! 2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I didnt make any that I remember. 3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Yes, my friends Sally and Lois. I have not seen much of Lois but I see Sally often and its nice to see my friends becoming mothers although motherhood is not for me. 4. Did anyone close ... more

Advantages Advantages 2006 is all over

Disadvantages Disadvantages I'm getting closer to 40

I thought I'd start off with some major events of 2006 - not depressing events though - the papers are full of that sort of thing! I went for being a bit frivolous… * Tatana Kucharov, from the Czech Republic, won the title of Miss World 2006. * Best actor at the Oscars was George Clooney and best actress was Reese Witherspoon. * 2006 was designated as International Year of Deserts and Desertification by the United Nations General Assembly, how exciting! * Italy won the World Cup (football in case you were asleep during all that excitement). * W L Gore & Associates were voted the best company ... more

    Advantages Advantages I got married!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Everything else that happened!

Well 2006 will stick in my mind as being the best and worst year of my life so far (at time of print I am still 23 - 24 in 17 days!!). I lost both of my grandparents in the space of 4 months and I also got married - kind of bitter sweet in away! I needed inspiration to write another review so thought I would write down what I did and what happened to me last year. I am giving it a shot - a little bit rusty with the old memory now so hope it makes sense! (Apologies for it being so long!!!) Where better to start than.. January 2006 Well the New Year got off to the worst ever, my granddad aged 87 ... more

Advantages Advantages A year with more ups than down.

Disadvantages Disadvantages A little bit of bad creeps in....

2006 has been and gone and enough time has passed since New Years Eve for my liver to recover and my head to feel a little less addled by the hangovers the Christmas period seems to induce. I have now had time to reflect on the year that has gone and hopefully look forward to the year that is to come. I thought that the less painful way of summarizing my year would be to use the questionnaire that has been so ably answered by many other members of this site. 1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before? This year has seen me have my first set of tasting notes, as Chairman of my ... more
