Advantages Advantages Attractive, roomy with an excellent driving position

Disadvantages Disadvantages I can't find any.

I brought a Rav4 2.0 about 3 years ago and was really happy with it. Recently I brought a new car and as I couldn't bring myself to part with the RAV, I decided to get myself a Brand New Version a 55Reg XTR VVTI. I have driven many cars from a Peugot 205 GTI (Small Sports Car) to a Vauxhall Omega (Executive Car) but nothing compares to this amazing 4x4 car. It's stunningly attractive, and elegantly designed. It is extremely spacious both front and rear (which is very useful when ferrying three children around), but best of all is the very generous boot space. I am able to fit three kids bikes ... more

Advantages Advantages Size, driving experience, build quality

Disadvantages Disadvantages None really, although it's a bit naff

Model: RAV4 XT3 5dr petrol Year: 2004 (54 plate) The buying decision: I needed a four door family car with a good sized boot to cope with baby seats, push chairs and all the other bits and pieces that go with it. I wanted a car that was nice to drive, good value and reliable. The choice: Small family hatches like the Focus or Mercedes A Class turned out to be a bit too small, often requiring the rear seats to be folded to accommodate the pushchair which isn't much use. Medium saloons like the Mondeo or Audi A4 have bigger boots but these are not overly accessible. This leaves the 4x4s, MPV's ... more

Advantages Advantages Great all round vision, reliable and versatile

Disadvantages Disadvantages You won't want to let it go

I bought my rav4 Heat Estate in 2000. I have had a variety of cars in the past and had always been a "if it's got 4 wheels and it goes, who cares" type of girl. I'm now a convert, if it's not a Rav I'm not interested. The driving position is great. Good all round vision, your high up and have a 'sit up and beg' type view. I've now got over 100,000 miles on it and I've never had any trouble, except for a lorry taking the back end out whilst parked outside my child's school. However Toyota won marks here too, replacing the damage at what I considered a reasonable cost and more importantly ... more

Advantages Advantages Roomy, great drive, quick off the mark, stunning looks and reliable.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Rear door doesn't open fully, parcel shelf.

We purchased our RAV4 about a year ago, second hand on a 51 plate, it had only done 13,000 miles. We had narrowed down our choice of the 4x4 market to either the RAV4 or the Jeep Cherokee after spending hours trawling around dealerships and test driving all different types of models. I had my heart set on a deep blue colour, whilst my partner (being sensible), was more concerned about the quality of drive, reliability, etc... Our budget was £15,000 and we managed to find one in the blue colour I wanted at our local dealer in Warrington - after driving all over the North-West of England, for a ... more

Advantages Advantages Makes me look good !

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Parcel shelf

Just bought myself the new 5 door Rav 4 2005 Limited model and extremely pleased. Got the automatic version and it is so easy to drive. Driven up steep hills with no problems, just can't wait to try it out in the snow. Good to see that the rear seats can be moved out of the way, without having to actually take out of vehicle - no heavy lifting. The driving position is high up, but you don't feel so high up - positioning is just right ! Good that the steering wheel can be moved to a comfortable position. The drink holders are absolutely fantastic - can move to fit either bottle of water, or ... more

Advantages Advantages all round visibility, comfort

    Disadvantages Disadvantages price

Having recently moved away from the city out into the sticks to an area prone to bad weather I decided to change my car for something more practical. I opted for the RAV 4 XT3 2litre petrol engine and 2 door model. The things I like about this car are its excellent visiblity and driving position, it has all the comforts and accessories of any other car plus the benifits of 4wd. The rear seats are removable which gives a great deal of extra space if needed, the rear door opening is great except if you are parked too close to something to open it! It is solid and handles reasonably well, the ... more

Advantages Advantages My wife loves the car

Disadvantages Disadvantages Its not an Alfa Romeo

After the demise of my beloved Alfa 156, due to being shunted from the rear into a lorry in front, it was my wife’s turn to choose what car we had next (part of an agreement for me to get my motorbike) and when asked what she wanted she said what John down the road has. This transpired to be a 5 door Rav 4. So off we went to the local Toyota dealer and did the deal on a new 2004 XT3 model. A couple of weeks later the vehicle arrived and to be honest the first time I actually drove one of these when we took it away from the show room. I am an Alfa fan so I was not expecting too much from this ... more

Advantages Advantages Size, Reliability, running costs

Disadvantages Disadvantages uncomfortable back seat for passengers

I bought my second-hand Rav nearly a year ago now after much consideration of the 4 wheel drive market. I looked at several other vehicles including the Vauxhall Frontera and a couple of Suzuki models and spent quite a while test driving and going round second hand car dealerships. I don't know much about cars but I do know that in all the research I conducted on the net (parkers etc.) and of all the people I asked (including mechanics and people in the car trade) the consensus was that the Rav-4 was an excellent vehicle, precision engineered for reliability, economical to run and generally a ... more

Advantages Advantages drives like a dream, reliable, funky looking, well designed

Disadvantages Disadvantages rear tailgate has limited opening, room in the rear is a bit cramped

We bought a new 2.0GX 5 door in 2001. We were immediately bowled over, and remained so for the 2 years that we had it. Firstly, it looks fantastic, chunky and rugged and very trendy-ours was black and we were always getting admiring glances and comments. More importantly, it handled like a dream. Being in permanent 4 wheel drive, it holds the road like glue. It is extremely stable even on sharp bends and great at taking off from a standing start at dodgy junctions where you need to get out fast. The engine is second to none. It cruises well at high speed, and allows you to safely overtake when ... more
