Advantages Advantages Big and fills you up!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Nothing overly special compared to any other hot dogs

I tend to eat chilli con carne quite a lot and sometimes think I should vary my range of foods - recently I thought a good way to liven up my chilli a bit would be to have 'chilli dogs' instead. Obviously not much on the variation side but at least it has something different than my normal rice with it!! So with this in mind I decided to go and find some hot dogs to have with it. Looking on Tesco's shelves was making it more difficult as there are so many different ones to choose from!! However after some thought and looking at the packaging of them all I decided to buy the Ye Olde Oak finest ... more

Advantages Advantages fast, cheap , loved by kids

Disadvantages Disadvantages Pretty tasteless, some unsavoury ingredients.

The hot dog has been a favourite convenience food of mine for as long as I can remember. When I was a teenager, and my parents worked leaving me to fend for myself food wise in the evenings, a tin of hotdogs was a quick, easy, no fuss meal that I could do myself and that my friends wouldn't turn their noses up. As I got older, I started to favour the frankfurters you can buy in the chiller section, and for many years stopped eating the tinned hotdogs in favour of these. However, a recent decline in finances has led to me having to cut back and buy cheaper alternatives of my favourite products ... more

Kids being Kids and not knowing what is good or bad for them will eat whatever is in fashion, no matter how much you try to give them their five portions of fruit and veg each day. So it comes to the night of the sleepover. I suggest Jacket potatoes with bacon and salad. Fresh fruit juice to drink. My daughter immediately looks at me as if I have come from Mars. Then she starts the sad eyed pleading bit, Muuum all my friends have hotdogs and coke at their sleepovers. At the back of my mind I was thinking I hope she meant coke as in fizzy pop. Yes, I did give in, but as I picked up a couple of ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap and easy to cook

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not to everyone's liking but hey. The opening device

Hot dogs, what more do I need to say? As soon as the phrase is mentioned, some people will be licking their lips at the thought, and others feeling physically ill. No other dish in my opinion evokes such a diverse range of reactions as the humble hot dog, so here goes my two pence worth on the subject. Oh just one more thing in case anyone has just woken up from under their rock, a hot dog is the American name for a thin soft sausage in a submarine type roll. The first thing I should say is that I love the ol' hot dog, and having not eaten them for a while, I purchased a tin the other day. The ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Depends on consumers taste

The Hot Dog. An Alien would think us rather cruel cooking dogs, or is it a dog that's been left in a car a long time. No of cause not, it’s our American cousins name for a sausage in a long bun. Usually smothered in mustard, tomato ketchup and other dressings plus a large portion of cooked onion. On film and TV we see them as large pink sausages that overlap the bun and have you ever seen an actor finish one? They always get a call if they are police and throw the dog in bin accompanied with look of disgust on their face. Now is this because they could not finish it. No my friends, it is ... more
