Professional scanning
Review of Epson GT 2500 by
thewhitewolf
Advantages: Superb quality, nice definition
Disadvantages: expensive
Have this at work so thought i'd review it as no one else has. Its a very professional machine scanning your A4 documents. Output is 27 pages per minute in black and white, with colour its 11 per minute. With a resolution of 1200 by 1200 dpi it has outstanding quality which is assured by the 'Epson Automatic Document Enhancer technology'. Very easy to use and to connect to your PC or Mac via the USB 2.0 port and can also be connected to your local ... ...done alot of scanning through this machine and the 48-bit colour has never let me down whilst providing optimal performance. I wouldn't recommend buying this for your home due to the expense however this would be perfect for a work environment in any office or other workplace where a professional scanner is needed. It's a better than average scanner in my experience and one that my workplace appreciates. ...

A great scanner - shame about the interface.
Review of Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 ED by
Hobboman
Advantages: Superb quality images and amazing ICE dust removal
Disadvantages: Poor user interface & price (especially for the optional APS adaptor)
...finally decided to get the Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 ED. All the reviews I read suggested a good balance between cost and performance, and I can confirm this. The scanner cost $1065 or about £600 from a US company called Cameta Camera who were selling the scanner new on ebay. When it arrived, it was very easy to install and get working, and came with the adaptors to allow me to scan both standard 35mm film and also slides. In order to scan APS films ... ...but it's around half what Nikon are charging for a brand new one! Unbelievable!!
Anyway, 12 months later, and I've now scanned a lot of negatives (no slides though), and the scanner has been perfect. There's no point my listing all the technical detail about this scanner, the main feature is that it produces very high resolution scans (up to 4000 dpi) which can then be saved in a variety of file formats e.g. JPEG or TIFF. Some of the file sizes ...

Nikon Super Coolscan 9000 ED a design success.
Review of Nikon Super Coolscan 9000 ED by
petermock
Advantages: high quality scans, large files, robust and intelligently designed.
Disadvantages: None.
The Nikon Super Coolscan 9000 ED is a brilliantly designed multi- format film scanner aimed at professionals but I would seriously recommend it for anyone passionate about photography. It is a joy to use.
It scans 35mm, Medium format 120/220, 6x6, 6x7, 6x9 (cm) and 16mm size films. Excellent results with black and white, colour negative and slide film in all the available above formats.
The price for the Nikon Super Coolscan 9000 ED is around £1800 ... ...around £5000 to £12000 the Nikon Coolscan 9000 ED price is instantly more attractive but what about quality?
The Nikon Coolscan produces images that are certainly good enough for professional, commercial and archival uses and fine art exhibiting purposes. If you use Photoshop and have a good or professional printer then the results will be stunning. I've printed 44 inch / 111.8 cm wide and much larger prints from the 6x7 cm medium format film size ...
