Advantages: Excellent quality when scanning slides and negatives
Disadvantages: Professional mode could cause problems for the novice used

...Previously I had the Epson 2480 and although this was good, it is no match for the 4490,expected really with the time elasped between the release of the models. Also, as with many scanners if you want a good result but with an equally fast time for scanning,you won't get it. You need to move up in the market for quality and speed.
