the tape drive is a pleasure to use, it gives good reliable backups at tremendous speeds and is excellent for restores. Usually only ever used in major company servers I have found you can pick up a second hand one very cheap indeed. I use it on my home system because cd\dvd backups still dont have major capacity like a tape unit. Tapes are cheap to buy also and you can reuse them about 30 times before needing to replace them. ...software Andy? Again, faultless. While HP do their own flavours of backup software, we use a product by Symantec called Backup exec. We originally had version 8.0 and are now running Version 10.0 The upgrade caused no issues with compatibility and the drives worked equally as well with both versions. Disadvantages: Poor quality, breaks at the blink of an eye, fragile, sloppy manufacture

We transitioned to Spectra Logic drives in March of 2006. It is January of 2007, and we have had to have both units replaced 3 times, the longest one lasted was 6 months, the shortest one lasted was 6 hours. They will overnite you a new unit, but that does not solve the quality issue. 6 of sh*t is sh*t. Woe unto you if your tape drive "white screen" dies.. ...It was delivered direct from Quantum within a week. The one problem I had was - no SCSI cable which really annoys me when it's a SCSI device. If i didn't have a mass collection of the damn things, I would have had to go out and buy one.
