Having read the other opinion on elephant.co.uk, i felt compelled to offer my opinion. My insurance on my car was up for renewal this month, and so i did the same thing i do every year, i got literally dozens of online quotes from all the insurance companies online, and guess who came out best?!

Yep, elephant were the cheapest quote by a long way. They beat the next nearest by about 80 quid, and this was Bell Direct (of which they and elephant are both child companies of Admiral). So i was impressed. Some quotes i got were 250% more, and the average was over £250 more than elephant quoted. Okay, so i am a fairly young driver (20), with a fairly decent car (VW Golf 1.4), so maybe they specialise in young drivers i don't know, but they're quote was superb.

The quote engine on their site is pretty good, very similar to all the others, and it was pretty quick, so no complaints there. However they do seem to often have problems with it being down, and you cannot get into it, which caused a few problems.

So anyway, i decided to go with them, and when it was time for me to renew, i tried to purchase the insurance online, however their website was down, so i e-mailed them asking them to ring me that day after a certain time. They rang me at the exact time i asked, and i sorted it out over the phone, and they were very helpful. The service was excellent.

The one big disadvantage is that if their website is down, the phone line is a 60p a minute line, but as i said, you can e-mail them, asking them to ring you, which is obviously better.

All in all, excellent rates, good service, but with an unreliable website.
