This is a site for general public sector vacancies. However, opportunities.co.uk has to be one of the worst I have seen on the internet. In total, there are only about twenty vacancies nationwide! To be fair though, I think this is due to two factors. Firstly, public sector recruitment has never returned to its former higher levels, prior to the last recession. This is more to do with economic policy than anything else. Secondly, the public sector is much more fragmented and is not as well organised in terms of national recruitment. There tends to be less drive in order to secure the best candidate and a great deal of recruitment is actually carried out internally. The bulk of vacancies also tend to be secured at the local level via the local press. Still, if you’re a strong candidate you could be in with a shout.
Advantages: Plenty of daily listings, simple to use and immediate contact. Disadvantages: Not many public sector positions
Reed.co.uk offers a fantastically simple and comprehesive guide to employment opportunities. Unlike many of its competitors, Reed dedicates as much time to its existing clientele as it does by increasing revenue signing up new ones.
In my experience, many alternative employment agencies provide the false impression that job availability exceeds demand, and will subsequently capture one's opportunistic naivity. Any method to get you on the books! However, with Reed i simply registered my details and CV, selected those jobs i considered relevant to my experience, and waited for a reply; and reply they did. Within 48 hours a Reed representative contacted me to confirm my current circumstances and arrange to liaise with my almost daily regarding updates and new opportunities.
Additionally, many other agencies utilise Reed to recruit ...

Advantages: Great course. Plenty of extras from the BBC Disadvantages: Lack of opportunity to speak when learning alone. Need for sustained motivation
an exercise book separately (£5.99 from the BBC shop) and taped the Sueños programmes off the BBC2 channel (the BBC website contains information of when these are played, which is quite regularly.) Add to this the Sueños websites which has video and audio clips, vocabulary, exercises and transcripts of the TV series and you get a very varied, multimedia course. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/spanish/suenos/). The only thing missing is the opportunity to speak the language, other than talk to yourself or the cat (See picture :-) ). But I will come back to this aspect when I describe the course itself.
The pack then... The book and Cd's are held in a plastic case and the whole thing looks rather attractive. One small reservation here: The Cd's are supposed to be lodged in a shape moulded out of the plastic but they never seem to stay in ...
Advantages: Large database Disadvantages: Often difficult to find certain kinds of jobs
I have been signed up with the monster board for about the last 4 years but have not actually had much luck in finding a job with them.
The search facilities are actually very good and I like the idea of
having an online CV which can be viewed by potential employers. The feed back I have had has been very low and the jobs that monster.co.uk thought were suitable to me did not really match my skills and experience. I think you have to be very specific in the criteria used when looking for a job through the search facilities, and it is often possible to miss opportunities because of the nomenclature used to describe the jobs. A good point about monster.co.uk is that it regularly sends out mailings about changes to its site, sponsors and other events. ...
