PACIFIC POKER
What is it?
An on-line poker game in which you compete against other participants. Once you've downloaded the software you are given the option to play for 'real money' or in practice mode. I recommend playing in practice mode to begin with to get a feel for the game.
PRACTICE PLAY
So what happens when you click on 'practice play'?
You are automatically entered into the 'main lobby' and you fictional account is credited with $1000.00. From here you can choose what and how you want to play.
The What?
You have the choice of 5 different versions of poker. The most popular one of these at the moment being 'Texas hold'em'. The other four are Omaha Hi, Omaha Hi/Lo, 7 card stud, 7card stud hi/lo, when click on a game a brief description of it and how to play comes up at the side, you can also click on 'help' to get a more detailed description of the game and the rules. Once you have selected the game you wish to play you then have a choice of tables to join, the further down the list you go the higher the stakes and the winnings get.
The How?
You can either enter a game with your current bankroll and play for 'dollars' or you can enter tournaments. These have a 'buy-in' price, all players are then given a set amount of 'chips' to play with, all players continue to play until there is one winner. Different tournaments have different prizes, the higher the 'buy-in' the higher the prize pool. The sit and go tournaments have a set number of players, once this number of players have registered the tournament begins. To register you just click on the tournament of your choice. The multi-table tournaments have a set start time, the number of players here is limitless, I once played in a tournament that had over a thousand players. You just have to register before the start time to play.
REAL MONEY PLAY
Works the same way as practice play except you are playing for real money. To deposit money and start playing you click on 'cashier' and enter your credit/debit card details. The minimum deposit is $20.00, which at the moment is roughly £11.50, there is also a £1.50 charge added to your card. The first time you make a deposit you are also given a free $5.00 bonus. As in practice mode, you select what and how you want to play, and you're off.
THE POKER ROOM
Once you enter the poker room you choose a seat by clicking on 'sit down' at the seat of your choice, now you are in the game, and will be dealt a hand. You can't choose your seat on the tournament as you are automatically allocated one. Once you are in the game you are given the choice to play or fold at every hand, you also have the choice to leave the table whenever you like, again this is not possible in the tournaments as you play until there is a winner. The poker room itself looks very authentic, a big oval table seen from above, with a dealer and up to 10 seats around it. The player name and bankroll appears at each seat. In the settings menu you can change the style of the carpet and the cards to suit you, also you can turn on or off a dealer voice, which you can choose to be male or female. You also have the option to chat with the other player if you want to. Also in the real money mode you can play in tournaments that can win you a seat in the World Series of Poker tournaments, (this is where the big bucks are)
What I think of it?
I got my boyfriend to teach me how to play poker as I was sick of sitting bored while he sat on the computer all night. Now we fight over who gets to play it.
I would recommend setting a limit to how much money you are willing to lose, and never play with money you can't afford to lose as it is very addictive. It is also very easy to lose huge amounts of money quickly, as you will learn on the practice play. If you are sensible though it is very good fun, and something I am enjoying very much at the moment.
Hope this was helpful to anyone reading... :-)

Sorry, l forgot to tell you how to cash out. lf you have been lucky enough to win some money, and want it turned into real money, you simply click on 'cashier', from here you are given the option to 'cash out'. Once you click on this you are taken to a screen where you choose to have some of your dollars deposited back into your bank account. The downside to this part of Pacific Poker is that it takes 3 days to credit your account, so not much use if you need the money in a hurry.
