O.K, so I’m a bachelor. O.K, so I’m a bachelor. Hey, life in a bachelor pad can be very enjoyable, but there are times (especially in the dead of winter, stuck out on this windswept raft of land I call home) where cabin fever kicks in and you just want to talk to someone. So you call your friends. And where are they? They’ve all got timeshares in Guatemala or Alicante or Penrith or something. So what do you do?
You sign up with Paltalk, that’s what.
Now, look. Before I go any further, being sad and lonely is not a pre-requisite with chat programs. It just often seems that way. There is a stereotype of the chatroom denizen, huddling over the monitor, checking for fresh blackheads to squeeze in the reflection on their monitor and breathing irregularly. Not entirely accurate, I’m afraid. Like all stereotypes though, it’s based in fact. And if you start using Paltalk, I guarantee you that even the most well-balanced individuals will spend alarming and prodigious amounts of time huddled over their monitors.
The blackheads part is up to you.
So what’s the script with Paltalk then? Well, Paltalk is an online community involving chatrooms, video conferencing, pc-to-phone calls, instant messaging, and now Multivideo Rooms (where you can see 3 other people who are chatting to you simultaneously as well as a preview of your own cam) and all for free! That stuff is all well and good, but where Paltalk really comes into its own is when it comes to voice chat.
I used to use Excite Voice Chat, until they had to close down that particular service (presumably because it was popular and people used it a lot). It was actually great fun. Friendships were struck up which have lasted. So I was (to put it mildly) just a teensy bit peeved when the darn thing was axed. As were many others. So I was delighted to hear about Paltalk.
All you have to do to sign up is go to Paltalk’s website (http://www.paltalk.com) and download the program. When you’ve installed it and logged on as a user, you are free to hop about from room to room, within many different chat groups (chat by region, language, sports, music etc). Using a microphone and pressing your trusty ctrl key, you can chat to your new-found friends with the ease of a walky-talky. Clever, eh?
Now, if you happen to be a singer or a musician, the fun really begins! By propping a heavy object (dictionary, ashtray, drummer etc.) on your ctrl key, you can hold it open and perform little mini-gigs to people all over the planet. Nifty. The community are generally very friendly and there is a heavy emphasis on mutual respect. Of course, since you never have to physically meet these people, the respect is quite easy to maintain.
Not like those mates of yours who are swanning off to Tarragona and leaving you at home in the rain.
Advantages: Free, easy to use, informs you when your pals are on line Disadvantages: Can conflict with firewalls or antivirus though not insurmopuntable
Another excellent program which I was surprised to see had only one other opinion written about it. So I have decided that I should speak out in favour of this excellent internet chat site.
Pal talk is a free download available, strangely enough, from paltalk.com, it takes moments to download as it is a mere 411Kb in file size. Installation is simple and straight forward and it nestles comfortably on your task bar.
Paltalk is similar in being to ... ...with and get up and running. Like most programs of this type you pick a user ID and register then, when you are on-line, it will tell you when any other paltalk members that you have set up as friends are also surfing. This allows you to call them and start either a text, voice or video session with them. Like ICQ you do need your friends to be using the software to initialise a chat but the program comes with the facility to e-mail an invite to ...

Advantages: Free, interesting categories, people polite Disadvantages: children could enter one of the adult rooms
I have just used Paltalk for the first time and I was amazed at the quality of the chat in the new members rooms. Paltalk is a free chat area with a difference. Members can chat by text, live via microphone or can video conference. Also available is private message 1 to 1 chat.
After listening to the live chat going on in new members room I decided to navigate a few of the other rooms.
Most rooms were really good and the users welcomed me on arrival. ... ...in other internet chat areas. The subjects covered by the chat were as equally as diverse.
groups are categorized.... places, language, interests and meet new people are all examples of categories.
each category contains a list of rooms with a number beside the list of the amount of people in that room.
There are many adult only rooms categorized as such and who's titles seemed a little risquee, but there is a box to tick at the bottom if you ...

Advantages: Great way to stay in touch and make new friends Disadvantages: The popup banners
PalTalk is a free messenger which is quickly and easily downloaded. You register with a username and password.
Once registered, you can join chatrooms about more or less any topic imagineable! You can add people to your friends list, like with most messengers. This is quite good, as you can use text, voice chat and video conference. The latter one being of little use to me as I have no webcam! You can also create your own chat room if you wish. ... ...popular as, for instance, Yahoo, so it's easier to chat and talk with other people. The people are usually very friendy, and will say 'hi' to you when you enter a chat room. You can also have a one to one conversation with somebody if you wish.
Each time you connect to PalTalk, one of those popup boxes will appear with an advert in it, so just close that. I did read somewhere that if you wish for this not to happen, it does come at a price, but ...

Advantages: cheap, hear all accents and not just email people Disadvantages: none
Paltalk is absolutely great. If you havent tried it I definately recommend you to give it a try.
You will need a mike if you want to take part and do some talking. There is nothing to stop you just going into a room though and typing what you wish to say instead of talking.
Paltalk can be downloaded in just a couple of minutes. You then choose a name by which you want to be known. When you feel like it choose a room you want to enter. Now these ... ...internet. They can be language, hobbies and interests, countrymen or just different countries.
You just enter the room. To be perfectly good mannered when you enter the room you will see on the right hand side a mike. That is the "leader" and then you will see a hand. You click on the hand if you wish to speak and your name will go to the top when its your turn to talk. It is so simple. Of course if there are a lot in the room then you may type ...

I have been using Paltalk for a while now, and I personally think that it is fantastic!. All you have to do is go to WWW.PALTALK.COM and download the software, and your rolling. You can have fantastic voice conversations on it, and brilliant video interactions. The Paltalk staff are very helpful, and they are constantlly online talking to people and helping them with problems. I have had a few problems using the paltalk software, but that seems to ...
