Review of "panda.org"
There is a hidden gem on the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) site: www.panda.org/polarbears then click on the ‘Canon Kids’ Zone’ button. This is a fantastic site that teaches kids all about global warming, its effect on the Arctic and how we might prevent it. There are also games on Maths and Science so kids can learn about these core subjects whilst finding out about global warming.
Plus it is available in the 10 major languages of Europe! The site is set in the Arctic and you have to help two polar bear cubs: Auro and Borea, on their quest to save their world: the Arctic.
Once you enter the site you have to pick a constellation to complete. Each constellation is made up of a sequence of star, each of which represents a game.Games range from Bear Jump to Food Chain – all are great games that also teach kids about global warming and either Maths or Science.
The games themselves are fantastic with superb graphics but there is the bonus that you earn snowballs for playing the games. You then find yourself in two snowball leagues: one with nine other kids from all over Europe in it and the other has ALL kids that are playing the site from your country in it. If you win the pan-European league you get a certificate, but if you win your country’s league you get a fab Canon camera (Canon obviously sponsor the site, but that’s it – no promotions or anything)!Brilliant! Play games that are great and educational and you can win prizes… and it’s free… and you learn how to save the planet… and you improve your Maths and Science (which I definitely needed!)!
Can’t recommend it enough! www.panda.org/polarbears then click on the ‘Canon Kids’ Zone’ button.
