"15.6" Vortex II - 15 best bespoke laptop for the money"

Well the full blown reviews about this model (not this particular, but based on this chassis) are popping up more and more. Clevo itself, Sager, Origin, Kobalt Systems, System76 etc. are offering this model, so it shouldn't be a problem to get one. I've got mine from PCSPECIALIST.CO.UK. In comparison to other companies they offered lowest prices, free delivery in uk and for additional ~50£ they built it in 3 working days instead of week (standart build time for laptops). So about the specs:
  • Intel i7 2630QM sandy bridge quad-core (2ghz per core) CPU
  • Nvidia GTX460M 1,5gb gddr5 vram video card.
  • Samsung DDR3 2x2gb RAM
  • Seagate 500gb Hybrid XT HDD
  • Full HD 1080p X-glass glossy screen.
  • No OS (Optional, -75£)
  • 2MP webcam, fingerprint scanner, full chic-let style keyboard with numpad, rubberized surface finish, 8cell battery and charger, pre installed Window 7 64bit Home evaluation version.

And all of that you get in 15" minimalistic (but ideal for me) design, built with care body. Actually as I've red in other review the author said: "if batman wanted laptop in his tumbler (tank) he certainly would chose this". When i laid my hands on this bad boy first i installed Ubuntu 11.04 64bit. Installation finished in about 15 min. another 20 something minutes i spent configuring the new system. With new quad-core cpu , 4 gb ram and hybrid hdd both - windows and ubuntu runs like breeze (actually faster than i expected). Games and programs too. One of the advantages with this laptop is that you can upgrade almost everything mentioned in specs. I expected keyboard buttons to be more stiffer, but its ok. Touchpad has the same rubberized surface as all laptop and at first touch it may seem weird, but after few days i wont change it for anything else. Touchpad buttons feels sturdy and clicks softly. Numpad layout is a bit strange but after few tries you can get use to it. Now screen. I wanted matte screen with 95% Adobe RGB colour coverage but at the moment PCSPECIALISTS had only x-glass glossy screens. So the colour coverage is only 60% and reflection wise it is sometimes annoying. Viewing angles are great and 1080p compensates everything. Sound quality isnt as good as in dells xps series but its better than other competitors. Power usage is as expected for this kind of laptop - with Screen dimmed down to 50% you can browse non-flash sites for about 3 hours. But if you fire it up with maxed-out Crysis2 it'll last only hour or even less on battery. Yep and the last thing - it comes with 2 USB3 ports (i havent used them yet so have nothing to say about them). For hardcore gamer maniacs i'd suggest i7 2920XM cpu, 8gb (2x4gb) 1600Mhzram, nvidia gtx485m, primary SSD drive, secondary 500 Hybryt xt and matte screen v4 (if its available). Thats all folks...
