Collecting personal data
Personal data is collected by Ciao:
- 1. During registration at one of our panels;
- 2. After registration, when we ask panel members to enter additional personal information in order to be able to invite them to appropriate surveys in the future;
- 3. When taking part in one of our surveys.
In order to become a panel member you will be asked, in a registration survey, to enter personal and general information. We ask for your e-mail address in order to be able to send you invitations to participate in future surveys by e-mail. Other information which we collect, such as name, address, sex, date of birth and occupational status, is used to assign people to appropriate market research projects. We require your date of birth in order to automatically update your age and to be able to specifically address certain age-related market groups. We ask for this information in order to be able to determine whether or not you are suitable for a particular project. We require your bank account details in order to be able to transfer the money you earn by taking part in surveys.
As soon as you have registered, you will receive a Ciao ID and can make use of the entire Ciao range of services using an alias.
You can revoke your consent to us retaining and processing your personal information in writing with immediate effect at any time.

Use of personal data
Ciao is contracted by market research organisations, manufacturers and wholesalers to carry out surveys. The information collected in these surveys is treated strictly confidential and provided to our customers in an anonymised form. Member IDs are replaced with individual identifying codes. Ciao alone has access to the associated member names. In addition, Ciao provides data on population statistics, personal interests and behaviour of its members in order to be able to optimise the service it provides through a better understanding of its member structure. This information is collected and analysed as a whole only.
By becoming a Ciao member you are giving your consent to receive e-mails which invite you to take part in surveys. You are also giving your consent to the automatic setting up of a personal account for the credits earned for participating in surveys.
During registration, you will indicate whether you consent to receiving the e-mail newsletter. This consent may be revoked. If you consent to receiving the newsletter, you will be informed of new functions or promotions on our website via this newsletter.
-
Transfer of personal data
Your personal data will be passed on to our customers as part of market research projects in anonymous form only. Ciao does not publish any of your personal information without your express consent or unless we are legally obliged to do so.
-
Viewing / changing your personal data
You can view and, if required, change the information in your Ciao account at any time using your Ciao login and password
-
Deleting your account
You can delete or deactivate your Ciao account at any time. To do so, go to the "Setting" page and click on "Cancel membership". If you cancel your membership, all your data will be permanently removed from our database. It usually takes two to three working days for all your data to be removed from all data records.
