Most people will at some time or other either have been to a live auction or visited one online. I am no exception, having been to many live auctions I know how easy it is to get caught up in the bidding even on things you don’t really need.

There are so many online auctions nowadays it is very hard to get away from them. I have bought off QXL,EBAY and LOOT and always received good products and excellent delivery.

Then of course we have the television versions BID-UP.TV and PRICE-DROP.TV, I have bought many things off BID-UP.TV and to be honest I hav’nt always got a bargain, but that’s the name of the game.

Let’s get to PRICE-DROP.TV , and my experience with them. I was one of 35 winning bidders on a King size duvet, pillows and curtains set for what I thought was a reasonable price.

At that time they were advertising 5 day delivery, after a week no delivery, 1 week turned into 2 and still no delivery. I phoned customer services, after the phone ringing out for at least 10 minutes I hung up.

Next step I sent them an e-mail, I week later no delivery and no reply to my e-mail, back to the phone still no reply, sent another e-mail, once again no reply.

Four weeks had now passed with still no delivery and still no reply to either of my e-mails. Back to the phone, at last someone answers.

After giving the bid details I was told there is a delay for all deliveries, we are trying to get through the backlog. I asked the following questions.

When can I expect delivery ?
I can’t give you a date, as soon as possible.
Why are you deceiving the public and promising 5 day delivery when you know it will be much longer?
We are not promising 5 day delivery anymore.
Oh yes you are, I am watching the programme as we speak. Are your presenters lying?
They should’nt be promising 5 day delivery anymore.
Does your customer services read e-mails sent to them?
Yes.
Why hav’nt they replied to my e-mails?
They are very busy, and are getting through the e-mails as fast as they can.
The person I spoke to was very nice and very
apologetic and did advise me to apply for the refund of my post and packaging when the goods arrived for the inconvenience I had been caused, I thanked him for his help and he assured me I would be put on a priority and receive my goods as soon as possible.

After another 2 weeks still no delivery, so its off on holiday for me, after my first week I phoned my son at home, after telling me about my mail ect. He told me PRICE-DROP had phoned to say that they did’nt have the goods I had bid on and they would credit my account with £10 for all the inconvenience.

As yet I still hav’nt received the £10.

The other point I wanted to raise about PRICE-DROP is the way the price seems to stop decreasing when it gets to a certain price.

I have looked through previous auction pages for items that have been auctioned over and over, and one thing I noticed is that they always sell for near enough the same price, can this be a coincerdence?

I have made a habit of looking on the net for items that are on auction and their guide prices are well above what they can be bought for, where do they get these prices from?

The guarantee they give with jewellery, if you get the item valued and it is valued less than the guide price they will refund the difference. The problem is they will only accept valuations from Safeguard who charge £39.95 for 1 valuation and £15 for each item after that, although they do refund the valuation costs if the item is valued less than the guide price.

Just a couple of tips for anyone thinking of bidding.

Have a good look around and find the best prices for the item you are interested in.
Decide the maximum you want to pay, don’t forget to add on postage and package usually about £6.95 depending on the size of the item.
Don’t be mislead by their guide price.
Last but not least BE PREPARED TO WAIT.

PS the day after my conversation with their customer services the presenters were saying delivery in about 2 weeks, I hav'nt bought anything else so I can't say if they are keeping to it.

PPS. Something I left out of the op is the method of bidding which is the reverse to a normal auction.

The auction starts off with say 50 items to be sold with a guide price of say £100, in this type of auction the price DROPS continually until the last item is sold off, hence the name PRICE-DROP.

Once the last item is sold off everybody whose bid was successful pays the lowest price bid, i.e. the price the last item was sold for.

Great review, only wish i'd have read it before i got addicted! I recently started watching Bid-Up and have bought have bought quite a few things, one of which was a 10pack of Pierre Cardin boxers. The guide price was £75 so i thought i was getting a pretty good deal when the went down to £32! Then a friend suggested Price-Drop as it was better and so i switched over and lo and behold there are the Pierre Cardin boxers, not 5 days later with a guide price of £65!!!!!!!!! So far i have sent 2 emails without a response and have rang and been told that someone from the pricing dept will contact me to let me know how the guide price can drop £10 in under a week. Not slating them completely and i know that 99% of the time its a con but this has totally put me off.... did they think no-one would notice??

This is a rubbish channel but still addictive to watch! Luke.

There delivery charges are rather higher especially as it takes ages for the product to actually reach you. I believe with the prices they have a limit to how low they will drop as one minute it is dropping really quickly then it doesn't move for ages. Good review though.
