Why when you buy a product from Regis will they not refund or replace inferior products

I purchased some GHD's from Regis MK and they do not perform well. I took these back to the store where I was told to deal with GHD direct. The product was 14 days old and I either wanted a replacement or a refund but was fobbed off. As a retailer surely they have a legal responsibility to deal with the customer on behalf of GHD.,
