i need help, how much per day of this calpol saline nasal spray can i give to my 3 and a half week old son?
i have just bought the calpol saline nasal spray for my 3 and a half week old son as he seems constantly bunged up and the tixylix his bought doesnt seem to work. reading the instructions i noticed it does not tell you the maximum daily dosage only how and how much to apply, could somebody let me know how many times a day to use it or do i just use it when he sounds like he needs it? any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
As you might have read on the label, it is non-medicated. Therefore, it can be used at any time of the day or night. Saline solution is a sterilized mix of salt and water or NaCl. It would be best if you used a rubber suction bulb to remove the mucus from your son's nose before you apply the nasal spray and a few seconds after as well. You might want to ask the pediatrician to prescribe antihistamines if the episode recurs.

Hi, An unbranded product but with the same ingredients (saline) was prescribed to my baby daughter many years ago. I was told to give her a spray in each nostril before feeds and before sleeping. I would still recommend asking at the doctor's surgery just to be on the safe side. I have also sent this link for your information which I hope helps.

Lorraine
in all honesty, with a three and a half week old I wouldn't be using any medication, no matter how minor without talking to a health professional. If he is bunged up you should check with a doctor maybe - you can buy aspirators for that age but with such a young baby they are in my experience always happy to see you. That said newborns do often sound quite snuffly anyway and make quite a lot of grunty noises. Hope you can work it all out.
