Introduction

This website is a blessing for anyone who has no idea what they want to do career-wise. Written and maintained by careers professionals, and having closes links with the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS), it is mostly intended for those recently graduated or close to graduation. However, the wealth of information available makes it a useful tool and resource for virtually anyone seeking a new career or career change.

So What's on It?

In my opinion, the most useful part of the site is the "Explore types of Jobs" section. Here you will find an A to Z of job titles, covering pretty much anything you could ever think of doing for a living. You can also search by job sector eg Finance, Media, PR & Advertising.
Once you click on a job title, you will be taken through to a profie which covers job description and activities, salary and conditions, entry requirements, training, career development, typical employers/vacancy sources, related jobs, case studies and contacts and resources. There's nothing more you could possibly want to know about a job!

Under "Explore Job Sectors" you can find up-to-date information on each major job sector in the UK. These cover job roles, entry and progression, typical employers, opportunities abroad, future trends, jargon buster, case studeis, contacts and resources. The future trends information is especially useful as you don't want to train for a new job only to find that there are no vacancies!

If it's ideas you're after, and if you like questionnaires, try the "What jobs Would suit me?" application. You fill out criteria such as your skills and other preferences (is money important? Do you want to work 9-5? Do you want to travel?) and it generates a list of jobs that may be worth investigating.

Don't want a job but want to do some further study insted? No problem, it's all on there. There is advice on choosing a ppostgraduate course, funding your study and even a course search facility.

How about working overseas? There are 50 or so country profiles, both EU and non-EU, which wil give you essential information on the job market, visa requirements, application processes etc.

And there's more....advice on writing CVs and applications, interview tips, vacancies, graduate recruiter profiles, community forums, lists of job fairs nationally. Best of all, IT'S ALL FREE!

Summary

Just graduated, starting uni, considering a career change later in life? Whatever your situation you'll find reams of useful information on here. Much more informative than the local job centre, it's always up-to-date and, surprisingly, it's not packed full of useless adverts. A triumph of quality over appearance! Have a look and you won't regret it! I even found my current job through here.
