I always have tons of unwanted stuff, and before the internet I was a regular car booter. However, now anything small or light enough to post goes directly onto QXL. I put at least two or three things a week up for sale on QXL, their tracking system is excellent and I find I can get 60-75 per cent of the original brand new price. The only other auction site I have tried is Aucland and my stuff did not sell so I am not going back there.
I have also bought stuff from QXL, including a brand new printer that was delivered to me before the money had cleared from my account.
Tips for selling your stuff is to post an image, these can easily be copied from other sites (do a search of what you have to sell on askjeeves.co.uk or dogpile.com}. Give a good clear description. Wait for the cheque to clear before you send the goods - someone who wanted the stuff next day sent me postal orders, which are as good as cash. Keep in contact with your buyer, package the goods carefully (I keep the original boxes) and check with the buyer how they want the goods sent.

Advantages: You can set a limit, and your safe in the knowledge, you won't pay any more! Disadvantages: It is not often that you get such a bagain as I did.
