I was never keen on QXL, the site was slow, the layout poor. But i have had a (kind of) bad experience with them recently and have heard some bad things about this company from friends which i am going to share with you all now.
When i signed up recently, i entered the wrong e-mail address (a typo). I finished setting up my proper account, and then e-mailed them telling them of my error and telling them that i wished to close the error account as i was concerned that the wrong e-mail address might actually exist. My main reason for concern was because when i registered i used my credit card and didn't want someone else bidding for stuff or somehoe accessing my credit card details and other info i used to register (address etc). They replied to confirm that there were 2 accounts, but not that it was deleted. I have e-mailed them several times but never heard from them.
I have also heard of QXL charging people for goods on there auction site and never receiving them. I have heard that 111 people are taking QXL to court for £10,000 worth of goods that were never delivered. I believe this is through the QXL merchant scheme but am not 100% sure. But i am sure that QXL are the ones being taken to court and not users of QXL.
I would just like to post the 2 comments my friends have left about QXL from another site (i've cut and pasted it in):
"I wouldn't touch QXL with a barge pole. They're absolutely useless. They sell stuff they haven't got, don't tell the suppliers when they've sold it and take no responsibility if anything goes wrong. Hiding behind their terms and conditions. I've had two bad cases with them, the first time it took 4 months for them to refund my credit card. The second time they sold DVD players that the supplier didn't even have, leaving me to chase the supplier and eventually cancel my order. They disregard the data protection act, by not deleting accounts when requested. It's your funeral."
and comment #2 is: "DON'T USE QXL!!!!! I am currently going to court over an internet fraud on their site. Over £10,000 was taken from over 111 people, they as usual accept no responsibility."
Once i have more info i will post. But be warned of QXL. I have used many of the auction sites, and ebay beats them all hands down.
