Hello All.
After reading many of the reviews members have written about QXL I felt compelled to write my own review.
As many people have said, the site is really easy to use. Every thing is well set out and there are great bargins to be had.
Another plus side of it is that there arn't many people on there so you are more likely to get what you want at a price you want to pay. Not so good for sellers though, many items I listed struggled to sell.
I have had experience of both buying and selling on QXL and a few weeks ago I would be singing there praises, now I feel the opposite.
My experience in the last two weeks has caused me nothing but worry concern and sleep less nights.
Firstly I will start by saying under normal
circumstances QXL is an extremely safe place to trade, and I agree in most respects with the literature on the site.
As a safety measure QXL post your seller activation code to you to verify who you are. If you want to change your e-mail address they send you a code to you current one to enter into the site when you update your file.
This feature isn't has as safe as it seams. Some how on the 23rd of last month a fraudster managed to gain access it my account and not only procedded to sell on my account 2 laptops for £2170 each but also managed to change the e-mail address as well.
QXL state - even if a person finds out your password it is impossible to change the e-mail address as it is impossible without the code they email you. Though it is possible to sell from your account
How did this person manage this imposible task? Well I don't know. I have e-mailed them daily persistantly since the 23rd of march and recieved no responce from them at all. They state they aim to answer all queries within 48 hours well a fortnight later I am still waiting for a responce from my first contact. Since the 30th of last month I have had no control of my account, and haven't been able to log in. I gave up e-mailing on the 31st, as there seamed very little point, and definatly unlikely that I would every recieve a reply
There customer service is shoddy in the extreme and I have worried myself sick. The fee's this person has put on my account doesn't bear thinking about. The people who run the site obviously have no regard for the safety of other site members, either that or they are happy for this sort of thing to continue. They are fine when they are earning money from you, but as soon as you need help forget it.
This is my experience, I have no closure on this matter, so will probably move on never knowing what happened and put it down to experince. I certainly won't be returning to the site under any circumstances.
Based on my experience of the site I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, the customer support simply isn't there. I know I am just one person out of thousands who use the service, and this isn't an everyday thing but if you wish to use QXL please ensure you don't reply to any suspicious e-mails. Make sure your passwords are unique to you and not something easy to find out like your date of birth.
An with regards to buying, I feel that it is advisable when you find that auction that looks to good to be true, check what else the person is selling and how they word there text, does the item seam unusual to the other items they sell or stick out in any way. In my case, I was selling jewellery so laptops looked really displaced in my listings.
I have just recieved a phone call from QXL and this situations has finally been sorted out. I wonder If they read this review.
The person I spoke to was extremely polite and sympathetic having been in the same situation himself.
I feel so relieved that I finally have some form of closeure on this.
I still feel that the customer service is a lot to be desired, but as long as you keep safety in mind when using the site you should run into very few problems. On the off chance it does happen, be persistant e-mail them constantly until you have a conclusion.
