In terms of usage and feel, there's none of the fancy stuff that Hotmail has: the calendar, the different navigation tabs, appointments, or a theme with just about 5 billion shades of blue. And neither are there tons of advertisement links and popups. And that means Rediffmail is fast. Very fast.
It's for normal human beings who have enough excitement in their life not to require an email account with aesthetic appeal, and instead just want an account without any added nuisances.
Most people might not find rediff.com that interesting or relevant, as it's a portal for the Indian user, but do you really click on those links at msn.com or msn.co.uk after you've logged out?
I don't, so who cares if the headline news at rediff.com talks about Indian politics. As long as my email account works, I'm just fine. In fact, I do browse rediff.com and have found some very interesting stories there. Check out the 'ODD STORIES' section daily. Highly recommended reading.
So then, I suggest you get yourself a Rediffmail account today! Start afresh without all those junk emails taking up half your allowance. Email yourself those photos and documents you want access to all the time. Stop sending a bunch of photos all in separate emails because your attachment size is too limited.
A quick hint: to get close to your choice of username, try replacing 'i' with 1, or 'e' with 3, 'o' with 0, etc. E.G. if I were to apply for an account called mike@rediffmail.com and it was unavailable, i'd try m1ke@rediffmail.com...which is good enough for me and much better than mike3929 or something of the sort.
