Advantages Reliable, pays in UK currency
Disadvantages Payments quarterly
When it comes to the shareware market, I'm a very small fish in a very large pond. I've only got one bit of shareware to my name, BankPlus, a bank account program for Psion handheld computers. When I released it as shareware back in '96, I was keen to find a way of accepting credit card payments. After shopping around and experimenting, I found RegNet, who offer the kind of service I'm looking for. I'm able to distribute a web address that acts as the online order point where customers enter their credit card numbers on RegNet's secure server.
Payment can be made by Visa, Mastercard or American Express. Customers in the US can call a 1 800 free number if they'd rather register over the phone, and faxed orders can also be accepted. All RegNet purchases appear in US Dollars.Payment is made back to me more-or-less quarterly by electronic transfer to my UK bank account in pounds, minus their commission charge, which is $3 + 10% per sale for products over $20, and 20% for products $20 or less.
When a customer registers, I receive an email confirmation, which allows me to follow-up with a registration code. Their website allows me to customise what question the online form asks my customers, and their online statements are useful, exportable, and go back far enough to be useful.
