So why should I try to recommend a new site to you and why do I think that "room102.com" is such a brilliant and entirely original idea that I was captivated on my first visit for hours! Oh and why did I quote those two sayings at the beginning of the opinion?

So why should I try to recommend a new site to you and why do I think that "room102.com" is such a brilliant and entirely original idea that I was captivated on my first visit for hours! Oh and why did I quote those two sayings at the beginning of the opinion?
"The proof of the pudding......etc" Go there and find out.When you first get their menu screen of categories and sub-categories you will think that it`s just an average search engine but you will be drastically wrong. Enter a few words into the "search" box and VOILA ! At the click of your mouse THIS IS DIFFERENT you realise.
Instead of just a load of words you actually get a "snap-shot" or "slide-show" of how the web-site presents itself - a real little picture that can either be a series of 10 thumb-nail images or bigger, low or high bandwidth pictures, depending on which you prefer.When an image (and the accompanying information) interest you ,click on and be transported to the site straight away.
As room102 state-they are not the best search engine around but they are pretty darn good and will certainly put the fun back into surfing.
Apart from the images provided room102 is superior in several ways.It uses the Open Directory database just as many others do so it has over 2 million sites to choose from but it`s real strength is that it does an excellent job at weeding out dead-ends and those ERROR 404 screens.It accomplishes this by refreshing the images it uses every 10-15 days at present. If the site is dead then there will be no image for it to capture and so no inclusion in room102.I find this drastically cuts down the exasperation.They hope in the near future to refresh every few days improving even more.
A minor glitch in their system is multiple entries for the same web-site but I believe the technical bods are working on this problem.
I could go on for hours about speed of loading,selectivity,relevance of search sites found etc.Room102 is in its infancy compared to its big brothers bit must surely attract and retain a large following of devotees.
It has no plans to develop all the accroutements that others have like e-mail.calenders,chat-rooms,news etc. and I for one am pleased by this decision.Their slide-show technology is unique,don`t pollute or dilute its effect to copy-cat others.

25.06.01. I have to make the following addition to my previous opinion,submitted a while ago. Room.102.com has shut up shop and is now a dead parrot.It failed to get the much-needed financial backing to make a brilliant idea economically viable in todays cut-throat environment.They do state that the idea may rise again from the grave if a miracle happens.Sorry to all of you who didn`t get a chance to try it out in it`s brief life!
