Advantages Lovely meaty taste. Makes you want more. Cooked and eaten within 5 minutes.
Disadvantages Not enough in one pack. Might bleed your pockets through wanting more.
As a student I don't really have the time (or energy) to warm up my oven, mess around with about a hundred different ingredients and make a homemade meal from scratch. In fact, I simply want good food at a reasonable price that doesn't take the best part of forever to cook. This is where Rustler's comes in. Their snappy slogan "0 to tasty in seconds" instantly struck a chord with me, and I investigated more. The price was a deterring factor admittedly, as at £1.49 a throw, there are other cheaper alternatives out there. But on this occasion my starvation got the better of me and I bought the product. A lovely looking snack (from the blue packaging with the sandwich displayed appetisingly on the front; the packaging is a different colour depending on what product of their range you get which is very helpful), which I hastily put into my microwave after reading the instructions. For 750w microwaves it is 100 seconds, 850w microwaves it is 80 seconds and 1000w ones it's 70 seconds. Then leave to stand for 30 seconds. Simple, and quick.
What's more, the meat is of a high quality also, at 85% pork, which for a quick snack is rather impressive, and easily justifies the perhaps steep price. The bun tastes nice as well, and is about the right consistency between stale and soggy. Within the pack is an easy to open sachet of BBQ sauce as well, just to add that little bit of extra flavour. But if you don't like that, you don't have to use it, which is good considering some products which have it already on so you have no choice. This means that you could alternatively put tomato ketchup, mustard, or any other condiment of your liking. As you open up the microwave once it's cooked, you are greeted with a warm, pleasant smell of cooked meat that is begging you to taste it. I'm not for one moment advocating that you stick your head in the microwave once it's finished as you might get a burst of steam in your face. You can just stand back and enjoy the aroma, tempting you and testing your patience as you let it stand for half a minute. The packaging is peel back, so it's easy to open, and is serves well in advertising the product. On the bottom it also clearly lists the nutritional information and ingredients. It does however contain 14g of fat (5g of which is saturates), so health-conscious people might want to watch their intake.
So to sum up, Rustlers have done what comes naturally to them, and provided a tasty yet speedy snack. The eye-catching packaging distinguishes it from its rivals, and is easy to open. The price of around £1.49 does make it a bit of a luxury good, but it's certainly worth it.
