Advantages: cheap Disadvantages: interogated before letting you buy product
Just returned from my local screwfix store to purchase a ladder wall braket. when i went to the counter i was asked for my name, address, email address and phone number. When i declined saying i did not want marketing material etc i was told" sorry sir unless you give me these details i cannot serve you" When i stated i was buying a braket not a gun or a chain saw or anything of that nature, just a black braket to hang a ladder on i was told wothout ... ...i refused the manager, about19, was called . when i pointed out i dont give these details at B and Q or homebase he looked stumped. I was then told that for security reasons i had to give these details! Do we live in a police state were we all have to give our private details to be logged on some pc to moniter what we are doing. Eventually when i said i would happily go else where suddenly there was a way to serve m e without wanting all my information, ...

Advantages: Fast, cheap and reliable. Disadvantages: None I'm aware of.
I've only used Screwfix once, but using their slowest delivery I ordered a large, heavy item (a telescopic 5m surveyor's staff) late on a Tuesday night and it arrived Thursday morning - well packed and in perfect condition. It was very good quality (made by Leica), and the price was very good too.
Don't really know how good their website is - except that Google took me straight to the right page, so someone's got their tags sorted out. I looked ... ...Somewhat surprised they sent me their thick catalogue (after all, if you order off the web you probably don't use such things) but since it didn't cost me anything I've no complaints and I'll doubless give it a browse.
If there's anything wrong with them I don't what it is. As someone who happily slags people off on the net if they deserve it, and being a former B&Q employee and current shareholder, I would be all too appy to find something wrong ...

Advantages: Range, Price (bulk discounts), Delivery speed Disadvantages: Better for bulk purchases, lacking in delivery tracking area
Wow - what a great site!
Not only are these guys cheaper than most high street DIY suppliers but they also have a wider range and deliver to you. I usually rate web-based companies on a few simple criteria:
- Delivery (speed & reliabilty).
Lots of delivery options, order before 5pm and it's better. Use couriers for deliveries. A little too much packaging for some items. Would be nice to show the net weight of items too, especially if you get them ... ...reels of cables!
- Price (including delivery cost).
Good if you're ordering in bulk, expensive if you're doing a one-off for < £50.
- technical information (seeing as you can't physically see what you're buying).
Great!
- a personal touch (ironic I know, for internet shopping, but we all like to do business with people, we're just after the convenience of getting it now, at the right price).
Hit & miss: good feedback on order progress, they ...

Advantages: Almost always cheaper than everyone else. Disadvantages: Delayed delivery
The Screwfix website is easy to use and intuitive. 10/10. However, problems exist at he the point of order. I searched and searched the web for 5 DIY products; everything from a cement mixer to a shovel and Screwfix came up cheaper 90% of the time - seriously! Done deal - My selfbuild project would be using Screwfix for all tools. Sorted. First item was a cement mixer. I took a week off work and ordered the item 3 days before the delivery due date, ... ...waited. I emailed Srewfix and received standard 'out of office' responses which were always followed (a day later) by substantive responses. All well and good, but no mixer. Allegedly Parcelforce were to blame. Tracking the item via their website was a curious experience. Each day it would leave the depot.......day after day after day!!!... Seemingly the mixer went for a little ride in the back of a Parcelforce van only to return home (depot) again ...

Advantages: I can choose what I want without looking stupid or girlie!!! Disadvantages: they keep sending me another catalogue
One of the problems i have found with living in 'the house that Jack built'has been the lack of funds to carry out all the work that needs doing. I have tried to prioritise the jobs in order - you know, starting with Dangerous, through Desperate, Irritating and just 'Bloody annoying.
Sometimes, though its just so funny or maybe its easier to laugh.
I have thought over the past two years that b&Q might adopt me, or at the very least make me a shareholder. ... ...the thousands of pounds they have had from me - so I have moved to Screwfix or rather www.screwfix.com - don't think they want to adopt me either, but they are very quick at sending me stuff to ease the problems and they are good quality, good value items.
Take the kitchen mixer tap (I really wish somone had) - it looked good but that was about it really, occasionally water came out of it, if you wiggled it about a bit and stood on one leg!!
Kitchen ...
