A modern hotel in the granite city

Advantages: Modern, clean, bright with leisure facilities - beach side location
Disadvantages: rooms get stuffy, can be noisy

...The Patio Hotel is situated just off Beach Boulevard in Aberdeen and close to a modern complex incorporating fast food outlets, a cinema, amusements and a leisure centre. It's a few minutes walk from the bottom end of Union Street, Aberdeen's main shopping street and generally regarded as the centre of town. It's also just a short walk from Aberdeen's beach, a walk or jog along which can give a bracing start to the day. The hotel is light and airy when you first enter and the central atrium that rises high up above you is an obvious design feature which reinforces the modern look of the fixtures and fittings. Above you, the internal rooms look out into this interior courtyard while the external face the relatively flat surroundings and the biting wind coming off the North Sea. Staff were pleasant, polite and efficient without being...

First Aberdeen

Advantages: Modern clean & warm
Disadvantages: reliability during peak hours & single journey ticket price.

...First in Aberdeen provide city centre services with the Aberdeen City Council boundary. There are predominately the only bus company to offer this. Stagecoach and Bains cover two routes within the city. First offer 22 routes, most of which are colour coded and run at 15 minute frequencies or better. See their web site www.firstgroup.com for full details. Services run from around 0500 to 0000 Mon to Sat with later start on Sundays with last runs approx 2300. Fares are in three simple steps. 1 or 2 stages are 70p 3,4 or 5 stages £1.30 6 stages plus £1.80 (correct at May 2007) First Aberdeen operate an exact fare system where all monies are deposited down a chute into a hopper and no change is giving by the driver. Day tickets are available from the driver offering unlimited travel for one day untill midnight. If purchased before...

Have Fun In The Treetops!!

Advantages: Easy to get to with great facilities and friendly staff.
Disadvantages: Expensive restaurant prices.

...I have been saving my Clubcard Vouchers for a few months now and decided it was time we treated ourselves to a weekend away. I had a browse through the many Hotels Hilton offered and finally settled on the Hilton Aberdeen Treetops Hotel. As the weekend away was to be on a strict budget I felt that being only about an hours drive from where we live it would be ideal. We wouldn't need too much money for fuel and yet it was far enough away to leave us feeling like we had had a break away from our normal routine. Booking the room was very simple using the Hilton Booking Line. I gave our details and requirements and was given the option of bed and breakfast with a family room for 4 with en suite bathroom at the rate of £79 per night or a family suite, 2 adjoining rooms with one en suite bathroom, at a rate of £97 per night. As we were...

Warm welcome in aberdeen

Advantages: Central, friendly and good deals
Disadvantages: Pricey

...The Thistle Caledonian Aberdeen is sited at 10-14 Union Terrace, Aberdeen, Only a few minutes walk (even for me) from the railway station. Though there is parking available as well so you can drive to it. A friend and I were going to Aberdeen to attend a conference and AGM and accommodation was at a premium. I use hotel Connexions to find cheap accommodation and they came up with the 'Cally' as locals and taxi drivers call it. For myself and a friend we could get a twin room plus breakfast for £120. I booked it there and then, incurring a £2 booking fee but by then i was getting desperate as I wanted somewhere near the station and also near the Beach leisure Centre for the venue of AGM, conference and dance. We arrived at 12:45 but could not get access to the rooms till 2:00pm. this was pushing it a bit but the very friendly...

Express By Holiday Inn Aberdeen

Advantages: Location, Cost.
Disadvantages: None

...Holiday Inn Express Aberdeen This hotel is a modern, purpose built hotel with 155 bedrooms. We Stayed at this Hotel on Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th of May 2007. We were meeting two of our Ciao friends and wanted somewhere near central Aberdeen. Location: Chapel Street, off Union Street; the main thoroughfare of Aberdeen, with The Bon Accord Shopping Centre and various pubs, eateries and lots of little side streets with exclusive shops. Cost: Four person bedroom: double bed and sofa bed: £55.00 per room, per night. The main Entrance has a Small reception area with a few comfortable sofas and a bar area to the left with further comfortable seating, coffee tables and two large screen televisions. The staff were very friendly and courteous and gave us a warm welcome. A little further along is the dining area...

The Ashvale - Aberdeen. Yum yum yum!

Advantages: Great food, homely, clean and tidy
Disadvantages: Hard to get to if you don't have a car, not much for veggies

...We have been going to the Ashvale since we were small children. Our parents always used to take us there for a treat (I even had a couple of birthday parties there!) The Ashvale Restaurant in Aberdeen was the first of the Ashvale Restaurants to open and it opened in 1985. The Ashvale is only found in Scotland and has around 12 restaurants, mostly situated in the North East of Scotland. Not only is the Ashvale in Aberdeen a restaurant but it also the Ashvale take away attached to it. I have only used the take away a couple of times but have been impressed. The menu in the restaurant is not that extensive, but it is really homely and good food. I think that it has something for everyone on it. You can choose from starters, main courses and desserts. Not everything is battered and deep fried!! The menu is great value for money...

Good location, modern room...but expensive

Advantages: Location, huge roon, free internet
Disadvantages: Price

...In September 2008 I went to Aberdeen on a short business trip. I was not sure where to stay so I asked a colleague of mine that had been to Aberdeen before and he said "Stay at Skene House on Rosemount?.but be sure to ask to stay in the church". I found "the church" bit a bit odd but I followed the advice and booked the room. The taxi from the airport was about 15£ and when I arrived the check in was fast and the receptionist called the concierge to show me to my room. It turned out that we had to walk out of the reception and walk across the street and into "the church". The building itself looked a bit old but was we walked in the glass door it was easy to see that this was a building that has been refurbished recently. I got room 505 and when I opened the door I came into a tiny hall with three doors. One of the doors led to...

Booking.com helps hotels cheat customers.

Advantages: extensive database of hotels, many quite inexpensive
Disadvantages: if a hotel cheats you, they will apologize, but do nothing.

...Booking.com: Colluding with Corrupt Hotel Owners to Cheat Customers? I am sorry to have to write this review, but I have tried for months to get Booking.com to address my complaint. I have reserved rooms using this service in the past, and have been very pleased. This, however, came to an end this summer. I booked a room at the Travel Inn in Reykjavik, only to find, upon arrival, that my wife, son, and myself were escorted to a car with no explanation. Eventually the clerk told us that we would be driven to the "other" location. The Travel Inn has, it seems, bought space in the Pavi Guesthouse (over a mile away). I would have refused on principle, but I know the situation in Reykjavik is such that I might have had no options. We were driven there, the driver stopped along the way to encourage me to withdraw money from...

It doesn't rain, but it pours.

Advantages: Perfectly comfortable, and good value. Service was friendly.
Disadvantages: A perfectly adequate and comfortable hotel, although regular Hilton customers might see it as something of a "poor relation".

...We've just returned from Aberdeen, having visited Amanda's grandparents, who have just celebrated their 60th Wedding anniversary; quite an achievement! On arrival at Aberdeen, we spent the first of our two nights at the Hilton Aberdeen Treetops hotel. Arrival It had been quite a journey. We arrived, late, from London Heathrow, flying British Airways. Our 'plane, scheduled to take off at 20:25, had finally departed Heathrow at 22:10 and we only narrowly missed being diverted to Glasgow and transferred to Aberdeen by coach, since Aberdeen airport closes at 23:30. With a 14-month old baby Josh in tow, this would not have been in the slightest bit funny. We worried, without reason, as it happens, about whether our reservation would be held. As our taxi finally dropped us off at the hotel, just before midnight, our fears were put...

Travelodge Aberdeen-Brilliant Budget Accommodation

Advantages: Excellent Location, Excellent Value for Money
Disadvantages: Slightly Noisey

...I often stay in travelodges whenever i go on a city break. I stayed here with my partner a few months back as it was in a very central location(just 2 mins walk from the train station and it is round the corner from Union Street(the main shopping street in Aberdeen). The room cost £26 which was very good vaue for money and we stayed for two nights. The room we got was on the first floor which wasn't so great as we stayed over the weekend so there was a lot of noise from cars speeding up and down Union Street and there were lots of seagulls causing so much noise. This of course meant that it was very tricky to sleep and relax. I stayed here on a previous occasion with a close friend of mine and our room was on the top floor and that was really great as we could sleep pretty well. The room was the usual layout with a TV...
