...My wife and I have just spent a week at the Castilla and have returned home very disappointed with the hotel itself and the concrete jungle in which it resides. To start with the pluses: The hotel is spotlessly clean - though we did find in our room a cockroach of the sort of proportions which might have got it some extra work in the film "Alien". The cleaning staff and indeed all the female staff working in the hotel were helpful and efficient, pleasant to talk to and always wore a smile. Anything else? hmmm the lifts worked! None of the male staff measured up to the female. Surly, unhelpful and distant are the kindest words I can find. The food was poor - it was never served warm. Maybe it is a Spanish tradition to serve mashed potato and vegetables cold. If so it is not one that I have encountered before. The shops in the area...

Alicante Airport

Advantages: Good location, decent amenities
Disadvantages: Can't think of any

...I use Alicante airport for my annual break in Spain and find it is convenient and fairly easy to use. It is situated just outside Alicante on the Costa Blanca, around 46.5km from Benidorm. It is within driving distance of Valencia, around two hours and 179km. Arrivals You would probably fly to Alicante if you were staying in Benidorm, Torrevieja, Altea, Calpe, Moraira or Teulada. It is popular with budget airlines such as Easyjet and Bmibaby and there are flights from many regional airports in the UK such as East Midlands, Liverpool, Bristol, Newcastle and Stansted to name a few. There are around ten car hire companies who operate out of the airport including the big names like Avis, Europcar and Hertz, these desks are located in the arrivals hall and can get busy at peak times. Advantages: Beautiful,Clean city
Disadvantages: Expensive,hilly,hardly any English spoken

...After having a day trip to Alicante a couple of years ago (Well actually 2 hours on a Thomson excursion) while staying in Benidorm,my wife & myself decided to use my last 4 days holiday entitlement to have a short break in Spain & found a really good value holiday in Alicante courtesy of Easyjet. The idea was that 4 days would give us plenty of time to have a good look around the city & as we are into that sort of thing,the castle. The flight went OK but on the Alicante newsletter which I am subscribed to It recommended getting an excellent free map of the city from the information desk at the airport. Well this is where things started to go wrong - I could not find an information desk so we decided to catch the bus & get one in Alicante. As it was Sunday all the information places were closed so we finished up having to pay 5 euros...

Alicante city is a wonderful gap in this winter

Advantages: Excellent weather, warming sun, gorgeous seaside, awesome nightlife
Disadvantages: Beaches might be too crowded in the summer, no winter sports to do

Booking.com helps hotels cheat customers.

Advantages: extensive database of hotels, many quite inexpensive
Disadvantages: if a hotel cheats you, they will apologize, but do nothing.

I booked a room at the Travel Inn in Reykjavik, only to find, upon arrival, that my wife, son, and myself were escorted to a car with no explanation. Eventually the clerk told us that we would be driven to the "other" location. The Travel Inn has, it seems, bought space in the Pavi Guesthouse (over a mile away). I would have refused on principle, but I know the situation in Reykjavik is such that I might have had no options. Excellent Location, Lovely hotel

Disadvantages: some rooms don't have good views, noise at night

...I have been in this hotel on two separate occasions, and although it has some flaws that other people may not find acceptable, I would most defiantly recommend this hotel. This hotel is in a very central place, quite possible one of the best locations if you want to see the city. It is situated in the old town, close to the Castillio Santa Barbara (the main castle), The port, Cathedral. Church of Santa Maria, town hall and museums. Its also about a 2 minute walk away from the beach, Playa de Postiguet. Generally, the location is very good, but there are a couple of draw backs. Firstly, the distance from the train station if you're planning on visiting the local area. It will take about 20 minutes to walk there, however, you can easily catch a bus. Secondly, the noise. ...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

ONE FOR THE HOTEL INSPECTOR

...AND PRICES I went through a few major hotel websites and came across The Claremont Lions, which seemed a reasonable price and sounded like it was well situated and of a good standard compared to the rest of the hotels in Eastbourne. Well the write up made it sound like an amazing standard but having stayed in a lot of hotels I know that's normally nothing to go by. After deciding on the hotel we were going to use I set about getting some comparables and came up with the hotels own website being the most expensive at £80, Lastminute.com at £69 and Hotel pronto at £59 which seemed really reasonable especially as I could get 8% cash back from the cash back website I use. It was simple to book online it took my 2 minutes to complete my details and my payment information. I was then sent an email confirmation and the hotel voucher. Booking online...
