Beware of LastMinute Top Secret Hotels

Advantages: They often have really good cheap deals which can't be found elsewhere on the web
Disadvantages: Their customer service is very poor and they are unwilling to go the extra mile

...Beware of Lastminute.com's top secret hotels deal - so secret that their partners won't even put their names to them! For good reason. I booked a 5* luxury hotel in Mayfair for my father's honeymoon only to find out I had booked a construction site! Once I found out the name of our top secret hotel choice (Radisson Edwardian Mayfair), I surfed round a few websites and found out that the hotel is undergoing a major program of construction and refurbishment. The reviews from recent guests are terrible! Yellow water coming out of the baths, plaster rubble on the floors, workmen/scaffolding outside the windows, unacceptable noise and even hard hats next to the bed, just to mention a few! I tried to cancel and found lastminute.com don't advertise a phone number so I tried their email address. When I did eventually receive...

Adelaide, Australia - Working Holiday

Advantages: Sights, Activities, Work
Disadvantages: Visa process

...Will be heading out to Adelaide later this year with the girlfriend for a working holiday, and thought a review of what we have found out so far and what I already know of the place might be useful for others thinking about doing the same. I lived in Adelaide till I was about 10 and have been back there a number of times since (from the UK), and have to say I have never been short of things to do there! Adelaide (like many places in Australia) is a great place to go for outdoor activities such as walking, sightseeing and water-sports. Although the city can seem a bit confusing and overwhelming at first, it does not take long to get used to, and is generally easy to get around with excellent public transport and wide straight roads (although lots of traffic lights!). The best excursions are probably outside the city in places like...

Diamond review  Livin' It Up in Lovely Adelaide (The Long Story)

Advantages: Fantastic Wines, Excellent Pubs, Cultural Atmosphere, Fab Public Transport
Disadvantages: none

.... Or if you're looking for a place to do a bit of shopping after a nice break at a café, there are numerous exquisite cafes located right in the city by the shopping district and at the central markets. Coffee shops are another popular "ritual" in Adelaide lifestyle. They love their coffee and tea here! There are several fantastic chains here including Cibo, Gloria Jeans, The Perfect Cup and Billy Baxter's, and those are just the chains! There are several smaller, privately owned little shops that are fantastic to stop in for morning tea. You can see how well liked these little shops are by the number of locals that stop in for a coffee/tea and cake. Finally, Adelaide has excellent take-away places for foods if you'd prefer to eat at home or in your hotel. There are "chook shops" where you can by BBQ chicken and chips (fries...

what lastminute.com offer will you take up?

Advantages: Great website, easy to use, good layout, lots of offers available.
Disadvantages: None

...lastminute.com enables people to book last minute deals on a range of products and services to hopefully find the best deal possible. However, it can also be used to book weeks or months in advance and has quite good deals on these offers too. They offer car hire, hotels, holidays, flights, spa days, theatre tickets, gift ideas etc. The website is very easy to use and each service/product provided has it own section on the website and you can use the search criteria options to select the amount of people, the preferred dates or times etc. This is very easy to use and the options that you've selected work well and load up in well under a minute (internet connection dependant of course). The homepage will show all of the latest deals and offers such as 2 for 1 on nights in a hotel and theatre tickets for Wicked, Grease etc from...

Don't overlook Adelaide

Advantages: Well laid out, the Barossa Wine Region
Disadvantages: Travelling time

.... CLIMATE Adelaide has a very Mediterranean climate. It is very hot and dry in the summer (our winter remember!) and dry and cool in their winter. In summer temperatures can reach 30c and it is a very solid not humid heat. Because of this when you are in sunlight it is very hot but once in the shade it can go very cold and many hotels, buildings etc have powerful air conditioning so pack light, layers of clothes for all eventualities! And remember the high factor sunscreen. ACCOMODATION There is a wide range of accommodation available in the city for all budgets from the 5-star hotels to motels and caravan parks. I visited two of the 5-star hotels, the Hilton and the Hyatt and both were the standard you'd expect a luxury hotel in a city. I stayed at the 3-star Grosvenor Hotel on North Terrace which was a very well...

Backpack Oz (Hostel) - Adelaide

Advantages: Cheap Hostel, close to all attractions, friendly staff
Disadvantages: You wont want to leave!

...For all of you out there who are lucky enough to be visiting Australia soon then I ask you, please do not overlook Adelaide. You, like I was, may be thinking, I'll visit Adelaide but only as a stop over between Perth & Sydney. I decided to take a year out of my life - 2002-2003 - and go backpacking around Australia. I'd been in Perth for about 3 months (staying with family) and I decided that my next main point of call was going to be Sydney. So, I took the Indian Pacific Train from Perth to Adelaide (took over 24 hours on the train but it was well worth it, saw the real outback!). I was only intending on staying in Adelaide for 1 night, possibly 2 at the most to have a look round and give me a break from the train before heading off to Sydney. I found this Hostel in my Rough Guide to Australia book (able to purchase at most...

Use lastminute....lastminute.

Advantages: Good for inspiration, usually find a good deal.
Disadvantages: Not always neccessarily a good deal.

...Lastminute.com is good for what its name suggests?.last minute ! I have been using last minute.com for about 3 years now. I have bought many theatre tickets, a very lastminute Europe city break (complete with flights and hotel), tickets to theme parks, and gifts (ranging from driving experiences to health spa pampering vouchers). Each and every time the service was good fast and reliable. To use the website you need to register. This is simple. You are asked for your email and a password. You are sent emails after any purchases, which are informative and give you all the details you require, ie booking reference. Payment is by Mastercard or Visa ( American Express and Switch for a few select items) Depending on the product bought, you are sent relevant tickets in the post first class. Its good for last minute gift ideas...

Hotel International

Advantages: Location, breakfasts
Disadvantages: Poor rooms

...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

Review of Hotel International, Paris

Adelaide, yeah!

Advantages: Nice weather, nice locals, like home, but slightly different
Disadvantages: None spring to mind. Watch the redback spiders, though!

...A very nice city. Adelaide is quite like an English city, with a few differences. Firstly, it's clean. Secondly, it's warm. Thirdly, moving about is easier, with wide pavements and wide streets. Also, the sea is nearby, which is nice, and offers fishing (if, unlike me, you like that sort of thing) courtesy of some fertile and decidely still ocean water. Swimming and water sports are also more than possible. A short drive north, through Elizabeth, near Gawler (pop 20,000) and and you quickly reach the semi-rural areas, which I is where I stayed. Here, land is very cheap, with ten acres costing about £100,000, or less. In fact, land is so plentiful that is it only sold in 2.5 acre lots! Obviously, the weather is good, with warm nights lasting until late Autumn, and during the zenith of summer, the heat can be nigh...

ONE FOR THE HOTEL INSPECTOR

Advantages: Location, price & views
Disadvantages: Standard of rooms, maintenance issues, no parking & pretty much no standards

...AND PRICES I went through a few major hotel websites and came across The Claremont Lions, which seemed a reasonable price and sounded like it was well situated and of a good standard compared to the rest of the hotels in Eastbourne. Well the write up made it sound like an amazing standard but having stayed in a lot of hotels I know that's normally nothing to go by. After deciding on the hotel we were going to use I set about getting some comparables and came up with the hotels own website being the most expensive at £80, Lastminute.com at £69 and Hotel pronto at £59 which seemed really reasonable especially as I could get 8% cash back from the cash back website I use. It was simple to book online it took my 2 minutes to complete my details and my payment information. I was then sent an email confirmation and the hotel voucher. Booking online...
