The oldest hotel in Harrogate

Advantages: Clean, pleasant service, near train station
Disadvantages: A long way from the Conference Centre, a bit boring

...Last week I was an observer at my trade union Women's Conference, and stayed as part of a group booking at the Cedar Court Hotel in Harrogate. I thought the hotel was a perfectly pleasant place to stay though I would not go out of my way to stay there again on future visits to Harrogate (I plan to go back in July for completely different reasons). The Hotel The Cedar Court Hotel was apparently Harrogate's first hotel, way back in 1671. This sounds really impressive but I can't pretend that I would have guessed it was so old, and this piece of information is gleaned from the booklet I picked up. It reopened in its present form in 1999. It is a 4 star hotel with 100 bedrooms and 10 Conference/Meeting rooms, a gym, a restaurant, a lounge/ bar and a "24 hour" menu. It is one of a group of 4 Yorkshire hotels, with other branches in...

French Culture In Harrogate, Who'd Have Thought It

Advantages: Great location, even greater wine cellar
Disadvantages: Breakfast was not quite to the standard I was expecting.

...Hotel du Vin are an exclusive brand of boutique style restaurants beginning with their first Hotel in Winchester back in 1994 this popular brand have spread across the UK at a rate of knots. With Hotels in Harrogate, Henley On Thames, Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Glasgow, and Tunbridge Wells. The next 12 months are going to be one of the most exciting in HdV?s history with Hotels opening in Cheltenham, Cambridge, York, Poole and Newcastle. HdV offer the hotel guest an exclusive experience far different from any other hotel chain in the UK with the exception of course of Malmaison its sister company. Each hotel offers individual qualities or facilities but all contain certain specific requirements in order to make them part of the HdV ethos. HdV Harrogate appears to be one of the more written about hotels in the chain, but I guess...

Review of Hotel du Vin and Bistro, Harrogate

A comfortable, friendly hotel.

Advantages: Excellent breakfast, wonderfully friendly, very clean
Disadvantages: Facilities a little basic

...I stayed here for a night in February 2007 as a present from my partner as I grew up in Harrogate. Grants Hotel is a family-run hotel situated near to the conference centre and about five minutes walk from the Turkish Baths and Valley Gardens. The carpark is relatively secure and situated to the rear of the building and it accessed by a driveway which involves a little driving skill to get around. The reception is quite welcoming with plenty of unique furniture, comfortable chairs and personal pictures around rather than the generic historical prints you sometimes see. It also has a 24 hour reception with a wonderfully talkative night porter who also tends the bar in the late evening. I stayed with my partner in the four-poster suite room and the bed was enormous and exceedingly comfortable. The room was nicely laid out as...

Genteel Harrogate

Advantages: Genteel; Pleasant;Nice Shopping;Beautiful flowers
Disadvantages: Expensive for antiques; gets busy

...Harrogate in Yorkshire is an elegant and genteel spa resort with a reputation for being England's floral town par excellence. Numerous visitors are attracted to this friendly floral town, with a rich spa heritage; very evident from the highly dignified architecture, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere emanating from a range of renowned hotels and homely guest houses. Then there is it's highly stylish and thoroughly pleasant shopping areas, theaters, cafes andgood mix of places for leisure and entertainment. ^^^^ Getting there : Harrogate is easily accessible through inter-city rail services from London with connections at Leeds and York, direct coach services from London, Newcastle,Liverpool and Edinburgh and Yeadon Airport is just12 miles away. ^^^^ Where to stay: The Tourist Information Centre can provide you with a list...

A Warm Yorkshire Welcome

Advantages: Quiet, good value accommodation with excellent breakfast.
Disadvantages: A smallish room, but perfectly adequate for me.

...Harrogate here I come... Several months ago I was invited to an event in Harrogate. For various domestic reasons involving dogs, hubbie wasn't going to come along. I didn't mind that. At least I could be assured of one night's sleep without the sound of snoring, either human or canine! I knew a couple of other people who were attending the same event as I was, and when they told me what they were going to pay for their rooms at the poshest hotels in Harrogate I could not believe the prices. I am certainly not mean with money and am as happy as anyone to splash out now and then. But what was the point in spending a fortune for fantastic hotel facilities when I knew I would not have time to use them? All I wanted was somewhere quiet to lay my head, preferably with a good, filling breakfast the following morning. I started...

imperial hotel

Advantages: economical ,central
Disadvantages: room quality poor

...i stayed here for my party conference mainly because as a last minute attender it was the only place with affordable rooms left,on checking in I found out why! Although from the outside it looks very much like its description, victorian coaching inn,on entering the room it felt like I was going back to the 1970`s,this is a hotel in dire need of a comprehensive makeover, the standard of decoration in my room was very poor, bathroom suite was very 70`s formica. The mattress had seen many years service so if you have back problems dont go here. It is however not all bad,the staff were attentive and on the whole pleasant to interact with. i couldnt fault the standard of the food on offer.it has free car parking -in harrogate that is not to be sniffed at and the location is central for the towns usual attractions. All in all if your looking...

By George, it's good!

Advantages: Reasonably priced, good location, good range of facilities, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Decor is tired and old; bathroom could have been cleaner

...I have just stayed here for one night, on business. LOCATION The hotel is very easy to find, being on the A61 through Harrogate (the Ripon Road). It is centrally located so you can walk into the touristy bits of Harrogate from here if you want. It is right next to the International Convention Centre, which is where I imagine it gets a lot of business - that's why I went there. Its central location is a good point. It is a beautiful Edwardian manor house, in nice grounds. FACILITIES It has the usual dining room, bar etc, and a leisure suite too. It has a quite a small swimming pool and a gym and weights room, plus a sauna. This is all useful stuff, if you were staying a bit longer than one night, but I didn't try and of it so sorry I can't comment. It did all look clean and there were obviously plenty of towels etc...

Review of Swallow Saint George Hotel, Harrogate

Home is where the heart is, Harrogate

Advantages: A lovely place to visit and live.
Disadvantages: none

...have hit the roof. Unfortunately everything comes at a cost and the old market ground floor was knocked down, but you can still go to the lower ground market. A lot of people in Harrogate do not like this shopping complex as it also took away the sitting area gardens which many a people would just sit there and watch the world go by. There are all the local shops and High Street shops that are in any other town but there are also some exclusive shops. Harrogate is considered as a posh place but that is because people just do not know where to go. The people are really friendly and helpful. I grew up in the days of leaving your back door open and living there was one of my only memories as a child. There is also Coppice Valley Swimming Baths which is situated quite close for people who like to go swimming. The Majestic Hotel is near to...

Make yourself at Home in Harrogate

Advantages: Beautiful, peaceful-ish
Disadvantages: Can be rough at night

...of the many taxi ranks after a night out. Leave Town The best thing about Harrogate is that it's so easy to escape! Unless you move here you will never have time to visit everywhere. Leeds and York are close for shopping/ more sightseeing (if you can face it!) and the town is positively surrounded by gorgeous countryside if that's your thing. Bolton Abbey is lovely in summer - you can paddle in the river Wharf (check out www.boltonabbey.com) and the dales and/or moors are literally a short drive away - check out Masham for an impressive rock formation - and of course you have to visit Stump Cross Caverns (unless you're scared of the dark) and Brimham Rocks (unless you're scared of breaking your leg!) Places to stay This one’s easy – unless you’re picky or there’s a huge exhibition on (say the Toy Fair...

Review of Harrogate in General

Majestic, a little tatty but ok!

Advantages: Splendid hotel in the old style
Disadvantages: Why do they have to charge for parking for residents?

...We have just returned from Harrogate after spending a lovely 3 nights at this hotel in lovely spa town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, so I will try to review this hotel and the town as accurately as I can and would advise others to visit this place as it is a lovely way to spend a few days of relaxation and retail therapy! The hotel is easily located at the Northern edge of the town on a hill above the exhibition halls. It is very imposing and hails from the grand old style of hotel, large and imposing and very Victorian in character. We opted for a "leisure break" booked through Paramount's own website. The deal was for a premier double on DB&B board including access to the "bodysense" pool and gym. On arrival we were greeted by the head porter who took our luggage as the rooms are not...
