A Jewel in Swansea's Crown!

Advantages: Great rooms; Lovely staff; Fabulous restaurant; Good location
Disadvantages: No sea view

...** Background ** I have stayed at Morgans Hotel twice now and it has been a real treat! The second time we stayed there my husband proposed to me and I accepted. He chose Morgans because he knew how much I had enjoyed my first stay there. My husband is Swansea 'born and bred' and so we go and stay in Swansea twice a year. Sometimes we stay with relatives but often we try out the local hotels and Morgans is my favourite hotel with The Marriott coming a close second. For me the one thing that sets Morgans above the Marriott is the fabulous restaurant. It's food and atmosphere are excellent - very sophisticated! **Hotel Background** The building itself is an old administrative maritime building and so has a real character to it. Apparently it is a Grade II listed building! It has twenty rooms which have all been individually...

Swansea, the area

Advantages: It's situated in the most amazing countryside in the UK
Disadvantages: The weather

...The phrase 'the graveyard of ambition' is frequently used to describe Swansea (as in films such as 'Twintown'). This is in many cases true. I first moved to Swansea to study there in 2003 and haven't wanted to move yet. I even intend on after studying to live and build my life here. WHERE and WHAT Swansea is situated in South West Wales and is easily accesable from the M4 and is home to Britain's first area of outstanding beauty. The Brecon Beacons is only half and hours drive away and the city is on the cusp of the Gower Penisula. Swansea hosts a 5 mile beach extending from the Marina to the village of Mumbles. The people of Swansea are referred to as Swansea Jack's (after the tale of Jack the labrador who rescued many lives) and although a Welsh city only a small percent actually speak welsh fluently. Swansea was the birth...

Booking.com helps hotels cheat customers.

Advantages: extensive database of hotels, many quite inexpensive
Disadvantages: if a hotel cheats you, they will apologize, but do nothing.

...Booking.com: Colluding with Corrupt Hotel Owners to Cheat Customers? I am sorry to have to write this review, but I have tried for months to get Booking.com to address my complaint. I have reserved rooms using this service in the past, and have been very pleased. This, however, came to an end this summer. I booked a room at the Travel Inn in Reykjavik, only to find, upon arrival, that my wife, son, and myself were escorted to a car with no explanation. Eventually the clerk told us that we would be driven to the "other" location. The Travel Inn has, it seems, bought space in the Pavi Guesthouse (over a mile away). I would have refused on principle, but I know the situation in Reykjavik is such that I might have had no options. We were driven there, the driver stopped along the way to encourage me to withdraw money from...

Shopping in Swansea, South Wales.

Advantages: Good Range of Shops.
Disadvantages: Fairly Spread Out - ie: Requires Walking.

...I like Swansea. Not very much, but it'll do. I'm kind of limited when it comes to shopping areas, unless I have £15 to throw away on the train journey to Cardiff. For me, Swansea is a £4.30, hour and a half bus ride from home, or a 20 minute drive. When it comes to the shops, town centre is pretty good. It has a diverse range of shops to suit young and old. The one thing I dislike is the fact that it's so spread out. Woolworths and Argos are on opposite sides of town, all the banks are a few roads up on the Kingsway, there are so many branches of Clinton Cards I've lost count. Personally, and maybe this is just me, I don't find it easy to find shops in Swansea. If you're after a certain shop and you don't know where it is but you're pretty sure there's one around, you're pretty much resigned to walk the streets until you find...

Life in Swansea

Advantages: By the beach, nice on a good day, beautiful views
Disadvantages: Officially the UK's wettest city, town centre traffic a bit odd

...Having lived in Swansea for around 15 years, I consider myself an expert on the place. So, I decided to write a review. Swansea, as a place to live, is quite pleasant. There are a few problems with public transport, and some neighbourhoods (e.g. Bonymaen) can be a bit rough, but this could be said of any town. The council seems to think it's a great idea to begin construction of some kind of new transport system in the middle of the city, which has lead to the Kingsway becoming a one way system. This can cause a few problems if you're not used to the area, but not once you're used to it. For a visitor, there are quite a few things to put Swansea on the map. If you've seen the 2005 ITV1 series Mine All Mine, the series shows off the Mumbles area of Swansea quite well, probably the most beautiful part of the city. The area most used...

Hotel International

Advantages: Location, breakfasts
Disadvantages: Poor rooms

...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

sachas hotel

Advantages: good price,great location
Disadvantages: no window

...****Sachas hotel- Manchester**** I booked this hotel last minute as i had a job interview in Manchester and needed somewhere quite cheap ,that was also near the centre. **Location/Getting there** This hotel is located in Tibb street which is a 2 minute walk from Piccadily Gardens or 10 minutes away from Chorlton street bus station. The Train station is a little bit further away say maybe a twenty minute walk but i don't think that this is that bad .You can also get a tram from Piccadily gardens and this goes to quite a few places. You could also get a taxi to the hotel but i am not sure what parking is like if you were to take your own car. **Reception/staff** Since i had never been to Manchester before i phoned and asked the staff for directions -they were very nice and helped me out. When i got there i think i got the same...

The National Waterfront Museum, Swansea

Advantages: Free, under cover, very child friendly
Disadvantages: None that I could see

...--LOCATION AND ACCESSIBILITY-- The National Waterfront Museum is located in Swansea's Maritime Quarter, about 5 minutes walk from the main city centre shops. From outside Swansea, exit the M4 at junction 42 (west) or junction 47 (east) - just keep following the brown signs - the Museum is clearly signposted and is very difficult to miss. There is a large 'pay and display' car park a short distance from the Museum (2 minutes walk). The car park costs £5.00 for a full day. Users of the car park who are visiting the Museum should inform the car park attendant that they intend to use the Museum, whereon you will receive a £3.50 discount voucher redeemable in the Museum's shop on that day. So parking really only costs £1.50 which is very reasonable as there are other things to see close by (Swansea Marina, amusement arcades, shops...

Swansea What A Place

Advantages: lots to do
Disadvantages: weather

...i love swansea, and i hate swansea, there is lots to do, but depends on the weather. i live 20mins away from swansea town center, and i love going to town, its so much fun, there are so many shops, cafe's, retaurants, music shops, and my favourite the big BIG big market, swansea has alot to offer everyone,if you wish to sit and play on the beach you can,if you want to go site seeing you can, if you want to go to the cinema and go bowling you can,if you want to watch football rugby and cricket you can. the buses in swansea are very cheap and quite often,we have a big bus docking center in the town center, weve got big shops, friendly people. i hate swansea in away because of the weather its horrible when it wants to be, and its lush other wise, the best way to look at swansea is through what dylan thomas said, 'swansea...

The Ideal Night Out In Swansea

Advantages: See op
Disadvantages: See op

...Meet up with your mates at The Crosskeys in Princess Way. Soak up the ambience and excitement resonating throughout the stone building whilst taking advantage of the 2-4-1 offer on selected bottled drinks. There is always a large friendly crowd in the evenings and for all you young and free females there are always some sexy rugby lads! However, you might have trouble finding a seat. That of course, is the ideal excuse to make the trek across the town centre over to Wind Street and straight into The Square. Everyone in Swansea knows this is the premier place to be if you like your shots and cocktails. Of course such fame comes with a price, so down a few Brain Damage (Grenadine, Archers and Baileys - guaranteed to get you steaming for under a fiver!!). Then settle back for a while with a bottle of Smirnoff Ice, enjoy the lively...
