Victoria Centre Nottingham

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -

...Nottingham has two large shopping centres, the Broadmarsh Centre and the Victoria Centre, situated at opposite ends of the city centre .The Victoria Centre is the bigger of the two, containing 120 shops (not counting all the various stalls in the market area.) Getting there is easy - if you drive, there's parking for over 2700 cars . If you don't drive, don't worry - almost all the Nottingham City Transport buses stop either directly outside the Victoria Centre, or within a few minutes walk of it . Other bus companies from slightly further afield, such as Trent Barton , terminate at the local coach station within the centre . If you're walking, the centre is signposted from various points in the city centre, and at the end of the day when you're weighed down with shopping, there are 2 taxi ranks directly outside the main entrance...

The Welbeck Hotel, Nottingham

Advantages: Very Central Location, Good Value For Money
Disadvantages: 10am Checkout

...When I needed to find some cheap Hotel accommodation in Nottingham City Centre a couple of Weeks ago, the Internet was the logical place to start my search. I tried the usual chains including Travelodge, but since my stay was less than one week away I quickly found that I was struggling. Eventually I stumbled upon the Welbeck Hotel. Location wise it seemed perfect, right in the centre of the City, and price wise it was well within my budget too, and so I confirmed my Online booking. FIRST IMPRESSIONS Well to be honest the first thing that impressed me was the location. It was less than five minutes walk from the Lace Market, and well within walking distance of all of the other Shops and Attractions. The next thing that appealed to me was the design of the building itself. It is quite a large, modern looking, Hotel on five...

Jurys Inn Nottingham

Advantages: Economical, clean, modern, good value for money
Disadvantages: No hotel car park

...LOCATION Jurys Inn Nottingham is located between bridge over the river and a water channel on the London Road , southeast of the city centre, close to the railway station and within a two-minute walk of the tramway system. First Impression On arrival to the Jurys Inn in Nottingham city centre, me and my partner were greeted by a modern, quite impressive looking, 8-floors high building. Although the building looks a little unfinished, the reception area looked spotless and shiny marble flooring as well as dimmed lightning and colour scheme added to a very glamorous look. The receptionist welcomed us and checked us in in a fairly informal manner. Unfortunately, we were not given any directions on how to get to our room, where the hotel facilities are or any restaurant/bar opening times. FACILITIES Car Park The Inn didn...

All the Nottingham news.

Advantages: Good local newspaper.
Disadvantages: None.

...If you live in or around Nottingham then you will certainly be aware of the Nottingham Evening Post. Published six days of the week this really is the main local newspaper for this area. The paper costs 29p (home delivered copies are 24p) and is published in a tabloid format. There is some colour in the paper but it is primarily a traditional black and white paper. The paper has an excellent news reporting team and is able to cover almost any story that is happening in the area. The paper is also very keen on photographs and has a small army of available photographers all around the county, that are able to attend local events. A lot of these photographers are freelance, but this does allow the paper to cover a wide area without having the overheads of a large pool of staff. Each day the paper has a number of specialist...

Nottingham Trent University

Advantages: Great Uni. Fact!
Disadvantages: Disadvantages?!

...So, having just finished at Nottingham Trent University it made perfect sense to make this brief review on the place...trust me if I reviewed every aspect of life here that I've experienced it would equate to the length of War & Peace! Trent is officially the leading "new" university in the country and is predominantly a city-based campus, with two other campuses located at Clifton (about 5 miles south of the city) and Brackenhurst (a very rural campus based to the north-east). I spend three years there and had an awesome time. In my first year I was based at the Simpsons Halls of Residence, which are in the Lenton area of Nottingham. Although not the nicest area of the city, the halls were certainly some of the best. Having had coursemates and friends who were located at other halls such as Hampden and Sandby which are much closer...

Once upon a time in Nottingham

Advantages: A view of history through everyday objects in Nottingham
Disadvantages: No access for wheelchairs

...The table was covered in the bright green cloth of Lincoln scattered with children's games, the reflection in the large mirror of the heavy Victorian sideboard reproduce the image of the china tea service, the brass oil lamp and the big family bible. In the other corner was the Grandfather clock no longer ticking and the hearth of the fire place with it's big cast iron fender framing the roaring open coal fire reminded me of the days of my childhood visiting my Great, Great Aunt Caroline. This room was virtually identical to her front parlour right down to the piano that now lay silent but in my mind I could hear the tinkling notes that over 30 years ago I had heard when my brother attempted to play. But I wasn't in Aunt Carrie's house, I was stood in the Victorian parlour in the Museum of Nottingham Life at the Brew House Yard...

Nottingham...Down Under...

Advantages: A good quality chance to 'step back in time', learnt things I certainly didn't know before I went...
Disadvantages: Not disability friendly, no cafe or toilets, tour was on the slow side to get going...

...~ BRIEF HISTORY ~ Nottingham City centre is built on BUNTER Sandstone, which has a depth of around 200 feet in places. Now Sandstone is very easy to carve into and so Nottingham has approximately TWO HUNDRED caves and all of them are MAN MADE. The first recorded record of the caves comes in 868AD and unquestionably these first caves were dug out for the purpose of dwellings. Let?s face it. You have no home but you need shelter. Find a shovel or any other implement and dig! As the centuries passed by, caves were dug for tradesmen to use for their businesses. Caves have a constant temperature so were excellent for brewing beer and the Sandstone filters water clean, vital for health. Businesses that required fire could light them safely in a cave (no wooden building to burn down), and if you needed bigger premises all you needed...

Nottingham - The Small Apple

Advantages: Well Established
Disadvantages: Crime

...I used to live in Nottingham myself, on Mapperley Road just outside the city centre! It's actually classed as Mapperley Park the area although its around five to ten minutes from the city itself! I moved there with an X - girlfriend in October 2003, as she was studying physchology at Nottingham Univertsity. Ok, people told me I was mad and it was a crazy place to go especially at the young age of 18. I ignored them and hopped on the train and started living in a shared house near to Nottingham uni, on Derby Road. It was one of those you know where you don't plan it out and just be spontaneous and do it, everything just seemed to work out quickly though I was in a house straight away, got a job within a month of being there. Which in all fairness was fairly easy considering there are approx. 28 Recruitment Agencies there. Nightlife...

Nottingham...the city with everything

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -

...and breakfasts within spitting distance of the station steps (most, unfortunately thoroughtly disreputable!). Keep hold of your wallet in the station though; as there is a high incidence of pick pocketing around the station at night, although there are police patrolling the station day and night. There are bus stops right outside the station, and a taxi rank in front. 01332 257 000 is the number to call for details of train times and fares to and from Nottingham. Road: Nottingham lies just off the M1, and if you take junction 26, this will bring you into the Bulwell area, from which point directions to the city are clearly signposted. It's easy to get a coach to Nottingham from most major cities and airports, with National Express and Skills both running regular services. Thanks Nottingham!

Advantages: Excellent campus, good rep and generally awesome
Disadvantages: campus is massive

...Having experienced two Universities in as many years I can definitely say Nottingham is awesome. After a fairly unsuccessful first attempt at Uni elsewhere I decided to venture to pastures new and ended up transferring to the University of Nottingham. Having visited Nottingham quite a bit I knew the city itself was pretty ok, contrary to popular belief you can actually go out into the city and not fall victim to any random acts of violence. Campus - University Park So I started out in Nottingham as a second year in September and have been enjoying it ever since. I'm based at University Park which is the focal point of the university for over 26,000 students. One of the most impressive things about the university is this amazing campus. The surroundings are really conducive to education; you have the benefits of being close to...
