The Stunning City Of Salzburg

Advantages: beautiful scenery, superb transport system, lots of things to see
Disadvantages: restaurants close quite early, not much veggie food

...My boyfriend Jamie and I have just got back from a 5 day trip to Salzburg in Austria. I bought Jamie the trip to Austria as a present for his last birthday. Here I am reviewing the city of Salzburg. Getting there I booked my flights with Ryanair through the website which I found fairly easy to use. Baring in mind I actually booked the tickets in July 2006 so that prices may have changed since then, but I paid £87.02 for both of us for return flight which I thought was very reasonable. We flew from London Stansted and the flight took an hour and forty minutes. Accommodation We stayed at Hotel Plainbrucke which is located about 15 minute drive from the airport and a ten minute bus journey from the main town. When I was looking to book a hotel online there were lots to choose from so I can't see anyone having a problem trying...

Salzburg, the sound of Mozart...music

Advantages: Stunning scenery, wonderful place
Disadvantages: not any

...Tourism based on ancient and modern - Mozart's music genius in the 1700s, and the tunes of The Sound of Music, famous now for just over 40 years. Salzburg has it all, the music story, wonderful, old, historic buildings and the majestic mountains bordering a lovely, open rural plain. 'The Festival City and its beautiful surrounding countryside' - that's what my glossy tourism book says and I agree through and through. My winter visit was magic. Snow was not as predominant as it usually is in February but enough on the stunning mountains to add the feeling of winter turning to spring. This proved to be just the right time of year for us to explore an old, architectural beauty. Mozart was born here - to be precise he entered the Salzburg scene at 8 o'clock in the evening on the 27th day of January in 1756 at number 9...

Salzburg Salt Mines

Advantages: Excellent value for money, interesting, good fun
Disadvantages: A little bit out of town

...When my boyfriend and I visited Salzburg in Austria, we decided to take a trip to see the Salt Mines. Getting there was very simple when using the Salzburg card and this also mean that the transport was free too (as the Salzburg Card cover this!). Arriving At The Salt Mines Once you arrive at the Salt Mines, which are well signposted, you need to book in at the reception. You pay here and the price was about £3 each which was very reasonable. Once you have paid, you are taken through into a warehouse type building. In here you can leave any valuables such as bags and shopping etc. You are then given some traditional mining clothes to put on. These consisted of a massive pair of baggy white trousers for the girls and dark blue trousers for the boys. You are both then given a blue jumper type thing and a leather pouch which sits...

The Beautiful Salzburg

Advantages: This may make you want to see Salzburg yourself
Disadvantages: I don't think there are any

...I have been to Salzburg 3 times, all in December. The first 2 times I went was with my Secondary School on ski trips in Schladming which is about a 20 minute drive from Salzburg I think. Austria is an excellent place to ski; the views from the mountains are just amazing. I skied down the Planai hundreds of times which are, if I remember correctly the highest or steepest down hill slope in the world (that you can ski down); please correct me if I am wrong. There is a small bar/restaurant at the top which I have eaten and drank in many times before flying down the slopes. The food in Austria is very different but also very tasty and the drinks are very strong, hehehe!! Each time I have been I have shopped in Salzburg. I don't know what it is like at other times of the year but in December it is very beautiful, especially if it...

Getreidegasse Salzburg - It will attract you too!

Advantages: One of the most beautiful and famous shopping lanes in the country
Disadvantages: Can get extremely busy during the summer; expensive

...Getreidegasse is situated in the "Old Town" of the City of Salzburg and is one of the most beautiful in the country. The street is very charming and elegant. It is most famous for its original whrougt signs which date back to the Middle Ages. Little court yards and side lanes invite you to have a stroll or why not take the time to sit and have a drink in one of those little cafe's. You will find one expensive boutique next to the other. Getreidegasse is busiest during the summer months - with the rich guests visiting the famous "Salzburg Festival" during July/August. It is during this time that you have a good chance of spotting many celebrities who are staying in the city. Another famous feature of Getreidegasse is "Mozart's Geburtshaus" - Mozart's place of birth which attracts hundreds of visitors every day...

As Close To Nature As You Can Get

Advantages: large natural enclosures, able to get 'up close' to the animals
Disadvantages: all signs are foreign so unable to identify all animals

...Salzburg Zoo Anifer Landesstrasse 1, A-5081 Anif Location Although called Salzburg Zoo, the zoo is actually situated just outside Salzburg in a place called Hellbrunn Opening Hours The zoo is open daily from 8.30am and is either open until 16.30 or 17.30 depending on the time of year you visit - more details can be found on their website www.salzburg-zoo.at. Additionally, in August on Friday and Saturday nights, the zoo is open until 11pm (last admission at 9.30pm) Price Entrance to the Zoo will cost adult 8 euros and children (4-16 years) 3.50 euros so I thought the price was fairly reasonable as the zoo is large and will take you a good few hours to walk around, for a family with children, you could make a whole day of it. If you have a Salzburg Card (available everywhere in Salzburg) then entry is free. Getting...

mediauk.com

Advantages: A decent media website...
Disadvantages: ...but no better than that

...Anyone looking for a job in the media, or even an insight into the big wide world of it, could do much worse than look here to begin with - mediauk.com. Operating since 1994, it lists current available jobs in radio, tv and print media, recent news articles on all these forms of media and a discussion board. Now being a graduate in a degree of this field of work, the jobs board has been an interest to me for quite a while...but don't expect to find work instantly. Anything but. Copious numbers of people view these adverts (you can see how many exactly in the job listings), but don't let that deter you of course - if you're good and experienced enough then you'll come across the job for you eventually. The jobs listed usually just contain a small job description and contact details for where to send your cover letter and CV, but...

dictionary.com

Advantages: Good free service
Disadvantages: Too many adverts & pop-ups

...Dictionary.com?! Dictionary.com?! Seriously?! Why, yes, something that seems so simply and basic has it's place on the World Wide Web (yes, I'm aware of the irony!), but fear not...it's not as basic as it seems! Rather than just typing in a word to discover its definition, dictionary.com does provide a far greater service. Since it's launch way back in 1995 (were websites even around then?!), it's one of the world's most popular services, as naturally many people will just type in 'dictionary.com' into their browser if they need to find the definition of a word...even if they don't know the website exists, it makes sense to have a crack at it! The website does provide a thesaurus option, translator and encyclopaedia...for anyone even contemplating steering away from Wikipedia, God forbid! But there are other quirks to the website...

gumtree.com

Advantages: Very detailed
Disadvantages: Open to fraud

...Many will remember a time when the classified section of a local newspaper was all there was if you wanted to look for second-hand goods, or look for a place to live without going to an estate agent?but not anymore. Goodbye the classified section; hello Gumtree.com To quote the frontpage of the website, Gumtree advertises ?Homes, jobs, cars, sofas, vintage records? anything, really??and they?re not wrong! It lists it?s good in cities across the country. And not just the capital cities of the UK, but anywhere from Brighton to Nottingham, from Oxford to Aberdeen. This handy tool can help you look for exactly what you?re after without having to sift through adverts from cities hundreds of miles from you. Now, to indicate the scale of the website, in the London section, the ?Flats and Houses? adverts totals 124,174!! That seems a bit...

cricinfo.com

Advantages: The home of cricket info...
Disadvantages: ...which many people won't like!

...Cricket lovers, come and join the fun...this is cricinfo.com Owned by ESPN, cricinfo.com is seen by many as the most insightful, informative and up-to-date cricketing website out there in the vast world wide web. Of course, those of you which can't stand the sport in any way, shape or form then this certainly won't be for you. Those who do like it and are aware of cricketing websites, then you will probably already know this one... Now, on arrival to the website things may look confusing - there's an awful lot going on and plenty of places to click...so lets take things as logically as possible; At the top of the page is an index listing - countries, live scores, fixtures, results, news, features and photos are all there, which kind of speak for themselves! The Features section for example includes regular articles such as the Ask...
