Advantages: Beautiful Disadvantages: you really need a car
...A pretty cove and a beautiful walk near SanJoséSpain
We went on holiday to SanJosé in Almeria Spain this Easter hols. This is a description of one of the best bays/beaches we found and a good coastal walk.
We used the tourist hiking map Capo de Gata-Nijar (1:50.000 same scale as an standard OS map here) which we bought from the tourist information in SanJosé, it comes with an accompanying book about the routes marked on the map. It also contained information about camping, apartments and other local information in Spanish. Dearly beloved can read some Spanish and I found I could follow a lot of the instructions fairly simply, you may be able to get an English copy. I will check this out .We found this a very good map and guide I would certainly recommend it.
One morning we set out in our hire car, with a loaf of bread, some...

Review of Almería (Spain)
Advantages: Good night life, relaxed. Disadvantages: Crime, not much culture.
...I lived In Costa Rica for 6 years and I spent most of my time in the capital, Sanjose, which is what I am writing about now.
The city itslef is quite small for a capital city but it makes it easyto navigate (up to a point!!). SanJose is located right in the middle of the country in what is called the 'central valley' although it isn't actually a valley.
The airport is in the north west of the city, actually outside SanJose.
Actually most of the decent hotels are outside the center too.
I cannot really recommend and as I have not really used one but I did stay in the Hampton Inn once and it was fine.
Taxis
Use them, they are cheap.
A 30 minute drive could set you back the enourmous cost of £1.20!!
They are red with a yellow triangle on the door. They are official but there are pirates around. Don't use them is my...
Advantages: Good weather. And some different ice creams. Disadvantages: Not much else
......now there's a fairytale title you never hear.
I like city breaks, I really do. Thus, I decided to tag a few days in SanJose onto the beginning and end of my Costa Rican tour. In total I spent 6 nights there, but only really 4 days due to flight times and travelling towards Arenal and back from the beach. This is still about 3 and a half days more than most people told me I would need, but I ignored them nonetheless, convinced that any capital city would have a fair few things to keep me entertained.
GETTING THERE AND AROUND
I arrived at 1am into SanJose airport which is about half an hour and $20 (US) from the centre. At that time of night it took us only half that time, though I would have happily spent a little longer on the roads in exchange for Mr "Authorised Airport Taxi" Man not running all the red lights. At that...
...are called miradores, which are basically hanging restaurants. While you?re eating you can look down to see the city of SanJose.
Accomodation
There is choice of hotel you can stay at. I stayed at the Hotel Alta which is quite a small hotel. The room had a private balcony where you had spectacular views of the Central Valley. All the rooms in Hotel Alta are very modern and you can also have a Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom in certain suites.
http://www.thealtahotel.comSanJose has a moderate climate, so it?s not unbearably hot. I would say, It?s a place for couples only, or families with older children.
And finally, a word of warning for anyone visiting SanJose?.
Unfortunately, the amount of crime there?s lets it down. You have to look out for pickpockets and sometimes purse slashers. You?ll find these types of people normally...
Advantages: Gorgeous scenery, sunshine Disadvantages: transport links
..., the automotive museum and the aerospace museum and gardens as well as San Diego Zoo. The parks Spanish architecture is gorgeous and reminded me of a recent visit to southern spain. This is worth a visit even if you don't intend to visit the museums. I'm not a huge museum fan and so decided to skip this and instead spend the time roaming the gardens (some of which have an entry charge of around $3). I would particularly recommend the Alcazar gardens modelled on some of the gardens in Southern spain and the Desert Garden with it's interesting variety of cacti. I also recommend visiting the zoo famous for its conservation work.
3. Old Town State Park
This is like a mini mexico with cute little markets selling crafts and some decent Mexican restaurants.
4. Sea World
This is great for a visit if you have kids to see the star of the place...
Advantages: Beautiful Disadvantages: tourists found it!
...San Pedro, in the natural park of the Cabo de Gata, along the Costa de Almeria, in Andalusia, was such an exceptional place that I kept it to myself for over 15 years! But the inevitable has happened, and people will always talk about good things, which has lead to a profound and sad change of this, what used to be, paradise on earth!
¨?"°ºº°"?¨¨?"°ºº°"?¨¨?"°º º°"?¨¨¨?"°ºº°"?¨¨
It was through a cockney friend of mine that I first heard of San Pedro, 20 years ago. It was during my holidays in Mojacar, not so far north from San Pedro, that my curiosity got me there. To get to San Pedro, I took a bus from Almeria, to Las Negras. Once on Las Negras beach, I turned left and walked over the cliffs, for a good 3 of 4 kilometers along a sometimes very narrow...

Review of San Pedro, Spain
Advantages: reasonable strength, refreshing, tasty, cheap. Disadvantages: not for repeated consumption.
...San Miguel Premium is a very tasty lager beer thats got a really sweet, refreshing aftertaste that is great for the cash. If you fancy a bit of a change, it is definitely worth a try. Like any alcohol, it is best enjoyed in moderation. However this one moreso, as it starts to get a little bit sickly after the third or fourth pint. It is something to drink between different beers, if not on its own. -- Definitely not something you can drink all night.
Its best to buy in a supermarket as it is disproportionately cheaper than in a pub. It is available in ASDA and TESCO in both cans and bottles. It is thirst-quenching and best served chilled and is often enjoyed in hot climates. As the name may have led you to believe, it is very popular in Spain and is the strongest export of Spanish Beer.
4%. ABV.
Summary: A fine Spanish Beer...
Advantages: Lot to do and see, coastline of beaches, and lots of good shops to the expensive to the cheap. Disadvantages: metro underground gets busy in the paek seasons, but all places have easy access and are walkable
...Barcelona? Why Not ?

Review of Barcelona (Spain)
Advantages: Nice weather, pretty cheap Disadvantages: Almost like being home because of a large Norwegian community
...A short summary
My wife Nikki and I went on a trip to Albir right north of Benidorm in Spain in the period August 27th to September 5th 2004. We went together with our friends Olav and Allis and their two kids. During our stay we got a chance to drive around a little bit, visit the theme park Terra Mittica, the water park Aqualandia, drink some good Spanish red wine etc. I hope that this short trip report can be of some use to others that are going to the same destination. Get in touch if you have any questions or comments :-) Please check my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com if you want to see more pictures from the trip.
Prelude
When I was young I remember that we had some family friends that were going on vacation to Spain. At that time it seemed so exotic at least compared to our road trips around Norway. Well, over the years...
