The city is so compact that it is easy to explore on foot and the family run Hotel Post is one of the most economic places to stay in the central Ring area of Vienna. You are less than 10 minutes walk from the Stefansdom, Kaerntnerstrasse and the Graben and there's a subway (U-Bahn) station - Schwedenplatz about 3 minutes from the hotel, as well as stops for numerous different tram-lines. So everything is within easy reach for tourists wanting to fit in as much as possible during their visit. The Hotel Post is an older style of hotel and perhaps not as luxurious as some of the more modern hotels in the city, however, rooms are spotlessly clean, large, with usual features and more than good value for the price. Excellent hotel in Vienna

Advantages: Large rooms, clean, with firendly staff.

...The Hilton Vienna Plaza is an excellent hotel located on the Ringstrasse in Central Vienna, I will talk more about the hotels location later on. Before I arrived at the hotel I emailed the manager with a few questions about the local area and the hotel etc. The hotel staff are incredibly friendly and I received an email back with all of my questions answered which was helpful. It took around twenty minutes to get to the hotel from the Airport, although on my way back to the airport at the end of my stay it took about thirty minutes because of heavier traffic. Check-in was fast and very efficient, the hotel staff were friendly and gave me a map of the local area. I booked to stay in a standard king room, the rooms at the hotel are a very nice size. ...This is a smart and clean hotel in the central part of Vienna. The capital is within walking distance but the hotel is also close to the tram stops making travel even easier. Consider booking via their website or an independent agent, for best prices. Apply for the 'free' Hilton Honours card (rewards available and priority checkin & checkout). The staff are helpful and nothing is too much. Breakfast is very good with a varied choice of foods. The hotel bars are small but never seemed to get fully packed out. Ask for some nuts and a bowl for free will be supplied. The rooms are comfortable and of a good size. Its very clean throughout. The gym is tiny but there is a spa and its suitable to take a glass & drinks into. I've given it a 5star excellent rating as it was fault free. The service is superb, the hotel clean and tidy...

Small, but perfectly formed hotel in Vienna

...In October of last year my husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. Astounded at how quickly the years had passed and determined to reward ourselves for our staying power, we looked for a suitably romantic/memorable way to mark the occasion. It was my husband who hit on the idea of getting the night train to Vienna (must write about this too) and I was tasked with selecting the hotel. Well, I really wanted to make sure I picked something special for the occasion. I work away quite a bit (only in the UK - nothing special) and get to stay in Hiltons and Crowne Plazas, and, whilst these are really good quality chains, I was really hoping to find something different so that I wouldn't feel like I was on a work trip! I found the Altstadt Vienna on tripadvisor where it was the 5th most popular hotel in Vienna. Well...

Renaissance Penta Vienna Hotel

Advantages: Not too near the city centre
Disadvantages: Great value weekend deals and lovely hotel

...The Renaissance Penta Vienna Hotel in Austria is not located too near the city centre but there is an excellent public transport facility in operation. It is about 18 miles from the airport and it took us about 35 minutes by taxi ad cost about 40 Euros (£30). The hotel itself has recently been refurbished but is charming and welcoming. All the staff speak excellent English and the level of customer care and attention to detail is excellent. Check in is from 2pm and check out by 12 noon although they let us keep the room until 3pm when we were checking out as we had a late flight home. There is parking at the hotel and a charge is made each day (about 10 Euros). The rooms The hotel bedrooms were large and spacious and were very nicely decorated in a classic yet modern style with large, imposing furniture and heavy drapes...

...Mercure Nestroy in Vienna is a good value for money for a place to stay over holidays or during a business trip. Located a 5 minute walk from a subway station and withing a 20 min walk from the city centre, Mercure is much cheaper than its counterparts just 1 km close to the city centre. The hotel is not impressively decorated, and in general, one should not expect luxury. However, it is very practical. The rooms, for example, are equipped with larger bathrooms than some 5 star hotels in Vienna, the calls from the hotel are reasonably priced, and wireless covering all the hotel is free. All the furniture in the rooms is about functionality, even the tv, mounted above the end of the bed. The rooms are done in a light green and many have windows over the winter garden inside. ...In brief, this was a lovely hotel to stay at- in the heart of Vienna and close to all public transport links. The hotel was very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent value for money. I stayed here in June 2006. Rooms: I had a single room which came with a double bed, TV, wardrobe, shower, safe, minibar, fridge and table. The room was spacious, had air con and was very clean. I had a fantastic view of the park outside and the only gothic cathedral in Vienna which was right next door. the maid came in every day and the room was cleaned to a high standard. The bed was comfortable and although there was no iron, when requeste it was brought straight up to my room with an ironing board. Facilities: There as no PC with internet connection however there was a wreless internet connection in the lobby...

...In my search for a Vienna hotel I was looking for something classy and plush, somewhere I could get engaged in style! I also wanted somewhere fairly cental to the main attractions of the city. I would have to say that this is one of the best hotels I have stayed in! For those who have stayed in Hiltons before, you know what to expect! Instant concierge service as soon as you walk in, luggage attendants who take you to your room, and fast, efficient room service all make for a top-notch overall service . The rooms themselves are very clean and modern; ours had a large flat screen television, desk, and tea/coffee making facilities as you'd hope! Very comfortable and quiet too. ...I am writing this review on ?Getting around Vienna? from the stance of a tourist as this is the only experience I have of Vienna. If you plan a longer visit, it would be advisable to research further. There is so much to see in Vienna (as you?ve probably realised from my growing set of reviews on the city). The city itself is quite compact and so is relatively easily negotiated by foot. Walking is the best way to view Vienna, as there is always something to see on every street that could otherwise be missed. The public transport system operating in Vienna is ultra efficient and very easy to use. If you plan to use public transport (and I do strongly recommend this), it is best to buy a ticket in advance. These are available in newsagents, ticket machines or at an underground office. Hotels often also stock these ? we got ours...

Wonderful Vienna

Advantages: Great Culture, architecture, lots of things to do
Disadvantages: Capital city prices, european weather

...bar any day of the week. Even if you dont like coffee ( and I dont ) a hot chocolate is always a more than pleasant alternative. The public transportation system is fabulous (try to avoid rush hours) with several major U-Bahn routes and convenient connections to street cars ("Strassenbahnen") and buses (routes marked with an "A"). Hourly, daily, weekly and more travel pass tickets are available at good prices. I stayed at a hotel in a village just outside Vienna called Gablintz but never felt isolated with the bus service which connected to the metro. Some people complain of too many tourists, to them I have a simple suggestion. Stay Home, one less tourist ! The city has it all. A veritable culture-fest, which is easy to get around in, and has plenty of things to occupy you. When (not if) I go back, it'll be for at least...
