Advantages attractive and effective
Disadvantages none
On a recent visit to the opticians I was convinced that I was going to be told that I would be needing glasses for reading as I was really struggling to read the small print in my books late at night and the information on the back of medicine bottles was virtually impossible! Therefore I was really surprised to be told that my eyesight was good and I did not need glasses. Although, in many ways i was very pleased to hear this news it did not solve my immediate problems.
A friend of mine who wears contact lenses had told me that she had bought a pair of non prescription glasses for the times that she did not want to wear her lenses so I thought that I would take a look at these so I trundled off to Boots to see what they had on offer. I was very impressed to discover the range of inexpensive and attractive Sight Station Fashion Reading Glasses. These glasses start from only £14 which I thought seemed a very reasonable price to pay. Prices seem to go up to about £30 and there is a vast array of shapes, colours and patterns to choose from. They all look quite funky. Looking at the styles and colours though they most are probably more suited for ladies although this does not seem to be stated anywhere.
The pair I chose was Cameo Purple which was described as 'a modern classic'. They are a very simple design but the purple makes them feel a little bit unusual. There was a whole stand of these glasses to try on in Boots and there was of course a mirror so that you could get a good idea of what they looked like and how comfortable they were to wear. All the glasses come with a nice soft case in the matching colour to keep them protected.
You also need to make a decision about the strength that you will need. The strength ranges from1.0 to 3.5 and this refers to the amount of magnification that the different strength lenses provide. You can try out different strengths with different styles which is very helpful. I discovered that I only needed the minimum strength but it is very surprising just how much difference these make to my late night reading.
I do really recommend these fashion glasses but I should stress that they should not be a substitute for having a regular eye test. On my next eye test I expect that I probably will need prescription glasses but these are a good stop gap. Also, as they are sold through opticians, I can only assume that there is a seal of approval from the profession.
